If you think about it, there must be a psychotic amount of energy expended in order to punch a whole through one dimension and into the next in order to create a dimensional rift large enough to transport an entire craft. So, perhaps if we had the requisite technology to track free-roaming energy sinks, we'd be able to find them no problem.

Greys are genetically engineered to perform certain utilitarian and dynamic tasks that require long life in specific environments which isn't necessarily for space travel. Saucers are interdimensional so they can go anywhere pretty much instantly if you know where u are going, so its not necessarily about travel its more about planting and nourishing life and we are that life. Other transcended humanoids create greys to scour the universe to find planets that fall in the goldilocks zone.
