Kind of. We're 3D beings experiencing this universe with very limited senses, and only able to discuss and comprehend it with our predefined notions. There are layers of reality above/below this (I'm not even talking spirituality here, just math and physics - higher dimensions, particle physics) that we cannot possibly comprehend, and if we ever did come close to experiencing them, we'd probably go insane (just like a lot of people talk about what 'seeing the face of god' is like). Lovecraft is cool and spoopy but I don't think that necessarily means it's actually all full of horrifying monsters, but there could be some, which is interesting to think about.

Trans-humanism would allow us to experience things beyond our current limitations.
