Lovecraft's stuff, especially readings of it. Although the movie Re-Animator is on some people's rainy day favorites list. I read his stuff in my teens, and several times since, so it's familiar. And it's mostly set in the 1920s, which for HPL was the present day, so there's that nostalgic aspect to it. All noir and Art Deco.

>Here's a sack of rotting nipples and maggots. Gee, that sure smells comfy.
Fear, horror, and revulsion intentionally put us outside of our comfort zones. Those of us who spend a lot of time in these areas may become comfortable in them. But the areas you can't spend a lot of time in (high fatality rate or sanity cost), those don't allow for it. Being sodomized to death by Bigfoot is never going to be comfy for the deceased, even if that's his fetish.

While I find most of Gustav Meyrinks writings deeply uncomfortable - especially when he mixes his unplesant humor with horror - there's one story that I found very comfortable, while horrifying.
It's called "Master Leonhard". It's about an old man sitting by a fire in a ruined church awaiting death while he thinks about his life, the curse that made him destroy his family and how he wasted his life looking for enlightenment.

I loved this thread. Thanks, op and all the anons who posted cool stuff. wish we had a higher image limit...
But before we get archived, I wanted to recommend a comic... It's beautifully creepy/comfy.
>Journey through the woods in this sinister, compellingly spooky collection that features four brand-new stories and one phenomenally popular tale in print for the first time. These are fairy tales gone seriously wrong, where you can travel to “Our Neighbor’s House”—though coming back might be a problem. Or find yourself a young bride in a house that holds a terrible secret in “A Lady’s Hands Are Cold.” You might try to figure out what is haunting “My Friend Janna,” or discover that your brother’s fiancée may not be what she seems in “The Nesting Place.” And of course you must revisit the horror of “His Face All Red,” the breakout webcomic hit that has been gorgeously translated to the printed page.
>Already revered for her work online, award-winning comic creator Emily Carroll’s stunning visual style and impeccable pacing is on grand display in this entrancing anthology, her print debut.
