So, what's the deal with these guys?

What do they mean, or what do they want?

If two or three crows seem to follow you, what does that mean?

Can they really read minds?

I realize OP's image is labeled crow, but I believe that is a raven. Compare it to the crow pic here: >>18451235

Note ravens have a more scraggly look and heavier beak. Side by side they're easy to tell apart as ravens get much larger. Ravens tend to be solitary, crows travel in flocks. Yes, you can see a bunch of ravens together and a solitary crow, but that's not the norm.

Crows make a "CAW-CAW" sound, ravens do this weird rattling noise. Ravens prefer carrion, crows like trash, though both will eat damn near anything. Both are very intelligent as far as birds go.

The main difference IMHO is that crows regularly gang up on other birds, esp. owls or one of their own and attack them. Ravens don't do that.

On the Internet , image wise, ravens and crows get lumped together and one is labeled as the other pretty often.
>>
>>18451227
They're just inquisitive birds. They like to learn and observe. Corvids are smart birds they like to observe and learn what peoples activities are to know when to scavenge.

At my work site there's a couple ravens who chill together. I'm pretty sure they're partners. They watched me for a week, Then noticed I didn't care about the garbage dumpster I walked by.

Now they eat whatever is in the dumpster. Even if I walk by them because they don't consider me a threat.

Regardless if it was a crow or raven they seem to have almost similar traits.

Crows, ravens, and the Corvidae family in general are considered some of the smartest animals on the planet.

What's really fascinating is that birds and mammals diverged around 300 million years ago - so their brain structure is completely different from ours and that of other primates.

>Crows are legal to hunt all day everyday where I'm from.

As a teen I spend a summer on an uncle's farm, he told me I could shoot the crows with the .22 any old time I wanted. Turned out this was a bit of a joke on me. Crows were too smart, you come out of a building with a rifle, crows just took off. You had a shovel, pushing a wheelbarrow, or carrying nothing at all the crows would just laugh at you and hang out. They knew what a rifle was and let each other know. I never got a single one. Bunnies on the other hand were dumber than dumb...

I've got a similar anecdote, my uncle who ALSO owned a farm used to hang a dead crow from a pole in his field. I don't know if he was just a sadistic jerk who had it in for crows, or if there's some element of truth to it, but he told me that a traditional scarecrow just wouldn't work, even when he got a new scarecrow the crows saw through it and realized it was a harmless fake in less than a week.

It wasn't until he shot a crow and hung it's corpse on display that he managed to keep them away.

A group of six captive ravens live at the Tower of London.Their presence is traditionally believed to protect the Crown and the tower; a superstition holds that "if the Tower of London ravens are lost or fly away, the Crown will fall and Britain with it".

I can't help but feel bad after moving as they probably became pretty dependent on me after a year of feeding them. Hope the lil guys are all right.

crows, ravens, all corvids are very cool birds. each species is very intelligent, all unique, but the common raven is said to be the most intelligent. do some research on their behavior, because truth is often stranger than fiction. i feed the crows everywhere i go. they have communal roosting grounds, sometimes gathering in the thousands. chances are, all the crows in any given area know each other. they might be good friends to have one day.
>>
>>18451271

You know what we're talking about. Crows will surround owls or hawks and fuck with them for hours, and they do so to other crows too. It's total nigger action on their part, just to do it. Ravens protecting chicks or trying to steal food is different. See: >>18451687

in that picture, i believe thats a raven though acting alone. they wait for eagles to make a kill, and them follow them to where they land to eat it. the raven taunts the eagle, knowing that they cant do anything about it without ditching the kill. when the eagle finally does, and takes off soaring, the raven snatches the kill and gets out of there.

>So, what's the deal with these guys?
They're birds.
>What do they mean,
They mean that at one point, the evolution of reptiles split off into what we now know as avians
>or what do they want?
Food, water, mating, shiny things.
>If two or three crows seem to follow you, what does that mean?
They are probably attracted to something shiny you've got on you, like jewelry or the like. Crows can also memorize faces, so if you ever gave them food or chased a cat away from them or something, then they probably like you.

When I was in middle school I had this strangely powerful dream, the first I had ever experienced, in which I found a hidden statue of a bird behind curtains in a theater. There were 4 other birds but this one was hidden. When I found it I was transported to the ancient past and saw this raven-haired woman do something forbidden and was transformed by a blue beam of light into a raven.
When I woke up I had this strange feeling in my head and was in tears, I thought I had been visited by an apparition from another realm and was convinced that I had been chosen by some spirit to start a new religion. Since then I've been visited by her several other times. What does it mean?
>>
>>18454236

It means you've got vivid dreams. A common symptom of more deep-rooted issues.

Is everything in your life in order?
Are you stressed? Depressed? Eating properly? Are you getting regular sleep?

Had a dream about a raven attacking a bunch of people was trying to gauge their eyes out or something when suddenly two other people with guns attacked the crow and shot at it. The crow took several shots and continued to live. Then after a quite some hits on the throat of the crow its head fell of its body still alive the head kept moving still holding the will and intention to attack the people. Then is stepped forward and stepped on ts head and finished the raven.

Now let me hear what you think that dream means

I saw this pretty cool sight once of a gang of jackdaws (the smallest species with the grey heads) and a single crow. It appeared that he led flock or "murder" as they were fighting a seagull over a scrap of bread.

I was a kid back then so it reminded me of pokemon where youd sometimes see an episode involving a pack of pokemon led by a sngle evolved one.

another interesting sight I saw once was a single crow cawing loudly in a dead tree with a graveyard in the background. The sky was grey too, making the whole picture seem rather ominous.

The reason for all of the myths about crows, in my opinion, must stem from their intelligence.
Corvids are some of the only birds who actually study their surroundings and learn. They also hold grudges against people who slight them and let others of their species know so they can avoid said person.
An acquaintance of mine once found a baby raven what was injured at the side of the road, he noticed a parent hanging around on a lightpole above him.
He very gently picked up the young bird, sought eye contact with the parent and then walked home to his apartment. He walked out on his terrace and showed himself, so the parent knew where he were. then he sat down the young bird and went inside for some water and some bird feed.
He set them up with a safe spot for the young to recuperate, with a source of water and food and then let them be. They stayed for about 2 weeks, where he once in a while came out and talked to them and fed them.
After the little bird got better they took off, but they would come by for a visit from time to time, tapping on his window. Then he'd come out with a bit of food and hang out with them.
They recognize friendliness and a partial source of food. I'm sure they were happy for the help.
