I feel like since it's a manuscript on parchment it's more likely that it was written by humans, and thus probably not in an alien language.

Two theories I've come across that could actually be real.

1) It was written by humans long ago in a language that's now forgotten. (Still doesn't explain the weird drawings, but whatever.)

2) Traveling ayyylmao's accidentally dropped it.

The thing that has always fascinated me about the voynich manuscript it's that it has language pointers, so it's not like the author was smashing the figurative keyboard, and the ductum of the script means that it was written in one smooth motion which means the author had practice in writing in this alphabet; it also predates most complicated ciphers so it probably isn't one.

The Voynich is strange, but I finde the codex Seraphanianus way more disturbing because of the art. Anyone interested in Voynich may also need to study up on the Codex because it is also strange and indecipherable. Because only partial and incomplete ciphers have been attempted and stopped not much is known of either. Yet The Codex is newer so more information exists.

I always figured it was just some dude who was bored a long time ago, scribbling a bunch of nonsense or practicing his handwriting.
Notice how a lot of the loops and sworls and shit look the same. I did the same in elementary school when I was practicing cursive writing, just jumbling up a bunch of gibberish because it looked nice.

The other writings and illustrations contain the code that is embedded in the universe.

The oera linda is another interesting old book.

I personally think we fail to decipher it because it isn't encoded. Just like Tolkien made a language for the elves in lord of the rings, the author of the manuscript could have created their own language.

It's a copy of an even more ancient manuscript made by a scribe who found it in the 15th century.
Unfortunately the scribe may not have understood the language neither thus it was never translated.
And I'm sure if it WAS there'd be some kind of heresy that the scribe would burn the script for, just like a lot of preserved ancient texts back in the day.
