looks like there's a train track just south of wayland, so maybe if its quiet enough at night, the sound will travel.
As well, if wind is bad in the area, sometimes high winds can sound like a train coming (and in the worst case scenario is an indicator of a tornado or hurricane, im told.) though on that note might also be wind going through natural formations in the area (rocks, trees, etc)

I got one that I saw earlier this summer. Pic related but not mine. It was too far away to get a good shot. Also, never posted this story here before.

It didn't seem like a conventional UFO it is was, I'd say it appeared to be almost angelic or some strange creature.
The area is know for strange sitings and general odd shit.

Could go a bit further, especially considering it's hilly farmland. Mines, caves and tunnels can have airflow that creates quite loud noises.

It's probably light years away

The closest train tracks to me are four miles away, yet I can still hear the sound of the wheels off a freight train rolling down those tracks at night, clear as day.

You'd be surprised how far sound travels when it's quite.
