Hey, Hermes here. Ask a more specific question. Are you seeking an answer or just fishing for information?

Fishing for information. I want x's perspective. Also I'm new. :/

I don't condone dedicating yourself to a single ideology necessarily, it is better to have a broad base and make a synthesis of things that works for you. You'll also find that as you broaden your base in this way you'll go back to your spiritual "home" so to speak, which may or may not be hermeticism for you, and it will lend you a new understanding of the faith you truly have a love for. That being said the lessons I want people to get from Hermeticism is self improvement, faith in divine, and the importance of ritual. Alchemy was the practice of self improvement, turning lead into gold was not only a literal pursuit at the time but was also a metaphor for changing yourself from an undesirable imperfect person to something of great value. Astrology was the second pillar I suppose and that was again both literal and a metaphor. Researching astrology and understanding it will lend you great knowledge in many fields but it was also a symbolic gesture of looking to the beyond for answers to our lives and having faith that the answers we received were benign and truthful. Of course as in all "occult" beliefs ritual is also very important to hermetics and completes the Hermetic trinity.
