Placebo effect. Not quite "bullshit," but its your belief in the thing that's working, not the thing itself. Better to believe in yourself than some item, IMO. It's still your belief powering the effects, but you won't end up losing yourself because a string broke or you got a hole in your pocket.

You can use them to certain level just with your own energy but later you require fuel. And at that point slow down and wisely consider if you go up or go down.
