Greetings, and welcome to The /x/ Files, the weekly news digest for 4chan's Paranormal board. Every Sunday, we take a quick snapshot of the mysterious world around us and bring it, in an easily readable magazine format, to the board. I am The Editor, the anonymous creator of this idea and collector of the news that will be following below. In the interests of legitimacy, I will be using a secure tripcode to post the thread; once the posts are completed, I will take the tripcode off and return to my anonymity.

Well, it's finally decided to get cold and stay cold here in my neck of the woods, and I'm pretty happy about that. Know what else I'm happy about? NEW FUCKING EGYPT STUFF

7,000-year-old City Unearthed in Egypt

Archaeologists have discovered the remains of an ancient city and graveyard at Abydos in southern Egypt. Thought to date back as far as 5316 BC, the city, which was found in the province of Sohag, would have housed high-ranking officials and grave builders who lived during Egypt's first dynasty. Among the finds at the site were the remains of pots, huts and stone instruments as well as 15 large graves including some that were even bigger than the royal graves in Abydos.

"This proves the importance of the people buried there and their high social standing during this early era of ancient Egyptian history," Egypt's Antiquities Ministry said in a statement. "This discovery can shed light on a lot of information on the history of Abydos."

Long-lost 1890's H. G. Wells Ghost Story Discovered

H. G. Wells, the man behind "The Time Machine" and other literary classics also wrote an unpublished ghost story. Some of the 19th century author's best known works include "The War of the Worlds," "The Invisible Man," and "The Island of Doctor Moreau," but beyond his most famous titles there also lies an unseen gem hidden within a large archive of his manuscripts at the University of Illinois.

The story was discovered when Andrew Gulli, editor of Strand magazine, heard that the university held a substantial archive of Wells’s works, and promptly hired an assistant to photocopy hundreds of manuscripts, which Gulli sorted through to see if he could find something new. The new story, entitled "The Haunted Ceiling," is a macabre tale involving strange activities occurring at an old house.

"Initially, from the titles of the manuscripts, I thought I happened upon lots of unpublished works, but those thousands of pages were narrowed down to this delightful story," said Gulli. “It's a vintage Wells story – you have a supernatural event, characters with two schools of thought on the event, the literary type versus the scientist. This reminds me of his story 'The Red Room,' but we have a more of a twist with 'The Haunted Ceiling.'”

"The Haunted Ceiling" will be published for the first time in Issue 50 of the Strand magazine.

Practical Self-Induced Hallucination

Most of the long-time /x/ lurkers are familiar with the Ganzfield Effect, whereby a person can cause themselves to hallucinate when given prolonged exposure to uniform, unstructured stimulation. The most common method being pic related, covering your eyes with halved table tennis balls and listening to static until you start to see things. You might also be skeptical about it, and think that something that simple and without negative side effects can't possibly be true. To that end, Brian and Jason from The Modern Rogue made this video, showing you how simple and easy it is to achieve the Ganzfield Effect...then go on to do it themselves and describe their experiences. I have personally done this sort of thing many, many times, even without the aid of eye coverings, and I can assure you it's fucking awesome. Check out the video below.

Expanded Perspectives: Lesser Known Alien Abductions

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about how recently Egypt has unearthed a city more than 7,000 years old and a cemetery dating back to its first dynasty in the southern province of Sohag, the antiquities ministry has said. Then, space is still the final frontier, and as NASA scientists prepare to try and venture further into the solar system than humans have ever gone before there’s a very important issue they want to solve — how to poop, pee and be on your period in space, without having to use a space diaper. Then, Japanese businesses are finding they need to deal with increasing numbers of foreign visitors to Japan, and Panasonic thinks it has the answer: a megaphone that translates the user’s voices into multiple languages, the Megahonyaku. Then, Kyle brings up and unusual sighting a woman named Victoria D. had one night while her and some friends drove through Cannock Chase, UK. I made this cake over Thanksgiving, and goddamn if I didn't have to make a second one. I recommend Granny Smith or Macintosh apples for it; if you use Macintosh, add a tablespoon of lemon juice to the batter.

Apple Cake

Ingredients

5 apples, peeled and chopped
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
4 teaspoons baking powder
4 eggs
2 cups white sugar (or half and half white sugar and brown sugar)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
6 teaspoons white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Lightly grease and flour a 9 by 13 inch pan.
In a bowl, mix together the flour, salt, spices and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat eggs, sugar, vanilla and oil until smooth and light in color.
Add the dry ingredients and mix well. Fold in the apple (and nuts if used). Pour batter into the prepared pan.
In a small bowl, mix the 6 teaspoons sugar with the 2 teaspoons cinnamon, and sprinkle over the cake.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center of the cake comes out clean.

Any static noise videos you would recommend? Also, is it anything like binurals or jackpotNH where you need stereo sounds for it to work>?
I think imma try this shit tonight
>>
>>18394481
Steady noise is best. Binaurals will give your brain something to focus on, thus preventing the hallucinations. Any simple white noise generator online will work, but make sure you listen through headphones and make sure it's not one of those ones that timeout.

One thing that isn't explicitly mentioned, either in the video or in OP's posts, is that it's a lot easier if you do it in a lighted room. It gives your mind a brighter 'canvas' to paint things on rather than darkness.
You'll notice in the video they lay down under bright lights, and a lot of Ganzfield guides say to use red light, but I don't think the color of the light matters, as long as it doesn't change or give your brain something to latch onto.

Thanks OP
