Is there something interesting about white noise? Is it a window into parallel realms? Or does staring at it reprogram the mind at some neurological level?

White noise has always been interesting what about it exactly that you would need something like this to program the mind?
well it is. a result of your tv/radio/whatever picking up the cosmic background radiation that surrounds us all and is a remnant of the big bang.
aside from that, its called white noise for a reason.

Why?

Because. Magic.
With White Noise, the intensity of each frequency is equal at the source. But due to our internal loudness curve we don't perceive all of the frequencies at equal intensity.
If you want noise that we perceive internally as being equal intensity at all frequencies you gotta try Grey Noise.

It only has an effect on hardcore programers who can read binary fluently as a second language.

The skeptical explanation for this thread, for EVP and for the candle and mirror game as well as a lot of other paranormal phenomenon.
Our brains are hyper-specialized to recognize other human forms so they can be tricked pretty easily into perceiving it when it's not actually there.

But there's a visual component to what OP is talking about...
Great novel, thought it was a little too on-the-nose though. DeLillo's written better stuff, especially Ratner's Star. The movie adaptation wasn't very good, I don't recommend it.

if you listen to it long enough, your brain will start trying to pick out patterns, resulting in mild auditory hallucinations. one time, i listened for about two hours, and heard distant birdsong in it
