It's meant to symbolize the curved side horns of a ram. A common core of many pre conceived notions of what malevolent formless consciousness appear as.

There is deeper meaning however to it. Resting your cheekbones on the palms of your hands squishes your eyeballs a bit, making your vision squinty. This alludes to "Changing your vision to see the realities beneath it".

Resting your elbows on the table is just bad manners and is a good way to passively say "Fuck you."

Pressure Points in the cheek bone help allieviate stresses in your temples, allow for clearer thought.

Also hands are very filthy, especially if you have hands that often work. The face is a very important thing in this abstract world of magics and general fuckery. So putting the ball of your hand onto your cheek bones helps keep your punam clean while also conveying messages.
