Videodrome was one of the first movies about the perils of altering reality at will, but there have been dozens over the years, and one from 1960's. (also see pic)

It's an allegory mk-ultra mind control and media brainwashing as well as dark side of hollywood and show business.

The main character gets sucked into a world of violence and delusion the closet he gets to videodrome.When he reaches the core they take control of him.

The part where the girlfriend goes to videodrome and gets killed is a refrence to young actors trying to join the illuminati and ending up a sacrifice because they didn't know the they were getting into.The eye glass company is a refrence to the all-seeing eye.

The end where he kills himself is a refrence to how mk-ultra assassins kill themselves when a coded phrase is said to them.

Mulholland drive is also contains simular themes


James woods also starred in a film attacking the victims of the McMartin coverups.

Not really, They Live is alien-based whereas Videodrome is more about mind-fuck

as an aside about mind-fucks, I sort of prefer Cronenberg's later film eXistenZ

Yeah, I'm not sure what this thread is about. Even my parents know who Cronenberg is and Videodrome is critics' and audience's darling since at least late 90s. You might want to educate urself OPPO.

I saw videodrome being recommended in an "essential" /pol/ movies list which leads me to believe that the people associated with that board are fucking stupid and don't realize the whole point of the movie.

Otherwise this movie is pretty good, great atmosphere and cinematography.

I don't think that /x/ would have anything noteworthy to discuss about this film and I recommend posting it on /tv/.

It would make sense posting it up on /x/ considering its general message but people here are way to caught up on bullshit.

I can't speak for OP, but it seems like there are enough of us here to have a discussion about it, I just can't think of much to say right now. The whole thing is pretty dated, but that's part of its charm too. I hope they never try to remake and 'modernize' it.
