[Verse 1: Lord Infamous]
Sippin on six murdered ministers, the salty blood
From the cup that they call Holy Grail
Silenced for singin' so many sick songs
Of a place they call heaven now skitzo broke hell
Restin' upon my black throne as I spy
In suspension of suspects of sittin' on souls
Sinister schemes I decided distract on a ancient crucial
Past voodoo and scrolls
Satanic insignia wrote on the scene
It's so sacred created by Lucifer slaves
Silent, secluded in secret somewhere in the swamp
In the land of old testament days
Infinite six, eternal the six
Forever the six I sits outta da flames
Sick minded soldiers wit suffering
Singing and searching to stable severe forms of pain
Scarecrow was me, I was sent from the ceiling
Crossed over the thorn on my venomous tips
Such innocent antisocial, my there is no sun
Daily as the rain wipes from my lips
Indulge yourself with the poisonous noises
Money and drugs, material gold
I tell you how is the profit of man
If he gains the whole world and loses his own soul

>their music appeals to people
>that's somehow bad
Seriously fuck off. Metal is kitschy and always has been. Kerry King can tug one.
>>
>>18354417
Metal is the most powerful music there is

1. A mass of the genre is essentially virtuoso classical compositions created by metal players who were classically trained or even SELF taught which is more impressive.

2. The music and the talented artists that play it are inspired and even study a massive array of genres and use those inspirations to create amazing metal compositions with layers, chapters and a story.. jazz, blues, classical, tribal music is all a major part of the beast that is metal

3. On top of being badass virtuoso musicians many of the people who play metal ALSO have a great knowledge of audio engineering and mix/master themselves and thus crosses over to live setup

4. So many metal lyrics are written creatively and aren't about dumb modern shit they are smart and thought out and range from stories of politics across history, mythology, science and occult several singers for metal bands are lyric and history experts.

5. Aside from how massive and theatrical metal and it's versatile performers are the brotherhood/tribe and culture of metal and it's metalheads is a lifestyle more powerful then any genre.. it's a tribe and comradery you can't find with other walks of life.
>>
>>18354681
Also not to mention the complexity of many metal songs that not only utilize many styles but the writing is smart and uses intelligent tempo changes and time signatures they have to keep track of.. not that basic 4/4 pattern retards that listen to other genres can comprehend.. rap artists wouldn't understand polyrhythms
>>

Fuck yes, that bass. Ghost is so fucking amazing. It's like they went back to the very roots of what metal was, at its core, and refined it into something majestic and darkly, richly beautiful. I love that shit.
>>
>>18356898
They're so used to the tryhard over the top self parody that metal has become nowadays, so often with the comical, ridiculous growly monster vocals, that they don't know the real stuff when they hear it. The same kind of people scoff at Black Sabbath being called metal and call Slayer's lead vocalist a faggot because he isn't growling and grunting all the time.
>>
>>18358317

I do hear the Sabbath in Ghost B.C., but I hear even more Blue Oyster Cult. Ghost are doing something different and unique in the metal world nowadays, and this isn't going to please everyone, and unfortunately displeased metal fans tend to react by spewing shit out of every orifice they can until they're wading in their own pungent stew.
>>
>>18358317
Fucking this.
>>
>>18358364
Yeah surprised that Sabbath is the primary comparison - in my mind they are way closer musically to BOC.
>>
>>18358508
I'm a metal head that pretty much loves all genres of metal but I hate when people diss on sub-genres using the 'growl' thing as their only argument.. people do realize that "vocals" are only part of the entire band.. every time somebody says "metal is just screaming"... 'just' screaming huh? Well now that's not fair to the guitarists, the bass player, the drummer.. or even in some genres the keyboardist, pianist, cellist, and several others types of wind and stringed instruments played by very talented people.. but average non musically inclined people don't hear any of the other stuff generally

Here's a band that utilizes all things epic, virtuous and deeply though-out.. great song writing, spooky scores, shred and melodic solo mixed with great break downs an amazing vocalist WITH growls used as backup and fillers to compliment the lead singers range. Good lyrics creepy and classical feel https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PLB51A9F5613B29264&params=OAFIAVgF&v=YTkb1CRAuJo&mode=NORMAL
>>
>>18358771
See, that's the tragedy of it all. The growl vocals stand out glaringly, painfully - there is some great metal out there, a lot of it, but it is utterly ruined by the trash vocalists who are too insecure in their masculinity to learn how to actually train their vocals, and instead ironically just go out and act like the biggest poseurs in the universe doing the growling yelling shit. It's garbage for kids (and too often completely out of place with the quality music being put out by the band on their instruments)

Perhaps that's technically good, but it's also somewhat generic and forgettable.
>>
>>18358703
Blue Oyster Cult, another great band that bears mention in this thread. Classic and timeless, their influence resonates still.
>>
>>18358783
I wouldn't call those growly vocals. It's not bad, at all, if anything its perhaps overly complex, like a classical piece a university undergrad would compose - but I enjoy it. I also enjoy Ghost.

THIS! Very /x/ and creepy in terms of occult symbolism and ritual.

This band shine because their music is like a tribal ritual.. I hear it has a warcry and a chant that somehow releases your inner wolf and inner beast.

You have to be in the right frame of mind and feel this music AS a ritual to appreciate it.. best listened to in the dark around a fire

When I hear growls in certain types of metal it reminds me of a warcry in a sense.. a warriors ritual or chant which makes it its own form of art.. especially in pagan/folk metal to me the growls are used to set the feel.

Not all music is about melody and range sometimes it's about atmosphere, feel and vibe.

Melodic singing

Screaming

Beat-boxing

Growling

Throat singing like Tibetan monks

Chanting

Yelling

Breath chants

Etc etc

They all have their place
>>
>>18364937
ICP fans might be able to compete as far as fan base army and comradery goes but if if you stacked fan base against fan base there are way more metalheads than ICP fans.. metal has been around longer so there are lots of old metalheads and lots of young ones plus metal is insanely popular all around the world, Finland especially, Sweden.. Asia.. big metalhead fan base and Scandinavia has one of the strongest metal scenes in the world if not THE biggest.
>>
>>18365685
Also much of Metals vibes feel and lyrical content is rooted in ancient pride and mythology, real history etc.

ICP at its core is still just rap.. maybe they have good rythem.. maybe they have a message behind their lyrics but it's still just people rapping over a computer generated beat with no actual instruments. Rapping and rythmatic fast paced speaking and singing is something g that has been done by metal several times ON TOP of there still being well trained vocals/singing AND a real guitarist, drummer, bass keyboard etc. that actually switch up the beats and COMPOSE a layered song with "movements" and breakdowns, chapters to the song.

Show any polyrhythmic beat or odd time signature change to an ICP fan and watch how confused they get.

There's an art to everything. No form of music is more valid than any other.
>>
>>18368527
There is an art to a big mac as well as a burger served in an actual restaurant, there's an art to the movie daredevil with Ben affleck as well as interstellar or bone tomahawk.. there is art to a crayon drawing a kid makes of his stick figure family and blotch of brown to indicate his dog as well as the Mona Lisa...

Yes there is an "art" to everything but that doesn't mean I'm going to glorify the Big Mac In the same fashion as I would with a fresh flame broiled medium rare burger with fresh veggies, tomatoes and a flavorful brioche bun.
>>
>>18368573
On a side note..

Yes I would say a musician who had a dream and worked hard, studied all kinds of music for years practiced his/her craft and played all the time.. kept working at their dream at all cost no matter how hard it got to get recognized.. maybe went to school for music theory and on the side got into a band where all the members worked Day and night between multiple jobs to create something unique from their hearts and spirit, sacrificed being able to eat or have electricity every once In a while In order to become a guitar virtuoso, an amazing and innovative drummer, a singer with range power and the talent to do so many styles effectively etc.

And kept studying working hard and playing every shit venue through trial and error learning along the way, at times maybe they wanted to give up but persevered.

Yes I would say their musicianship is more VALID then some girl who can't sing but got recognized because producers thought she was hot and would market well so they use synthesizers and pitch controllers to make her sound decent and tell her to just shake her ass as they write lyrics for her about partying and fucking to sing while they also make her shitty computer beats as she makes millions for doing almost nothing.

No I don't think those are the same.. I think the band up top is much more valid.

>>18370140

Nope implying there are litteraly pop artists who got the gig because they were hot and could maybe hit a couple notes.. but they had a look producers wanted to market, so in comes the beats and pitch correcting synthesizers and the twerking.. there are still HOT pop stars with big asses who worked hard and have plenty of talent but there is also a big handful of garbage that didn't earn the title of musical icon.. most of THOSE stars don't write their lyrics, pick their look, make any of the background music and without the auto-tune can't actually hold a proper note.. producers do all that for them and then they just lip sync it live. Sure there is some level of "skill" it takes In order to take commands from the record company and perform the way you are scripted to but what I'm saying is THAT is much different to an artist that worked hard to perfect their craft, played the music, sang the songs, wrote the lyrics, picked the look, and produced/managed themselves for a long time in till they were finally noticed enough to make it big spending loads of money on their own shit in order to achieve the sound and look they poured their soul into.

Big difference, 1 IS more "VALID" as a musician then the other
>>
>>18370689
But why would you choose the untalented trash artists to represent the genre? Your reasoning is just bizarre. Yes, some people get ahead because of their looks and connections. Can those same people not also have talent? You're separating artists into these two groups - but they are not mutually exclusive.
>>
>>18371785

Maybe they "have" talents dude, but if they can't sing so producers use auto-tune to fix that, and they don't write their lyrics or make their music.. if the producers do everything for them and then just have them twerk to some song about taking shots and stealing boyfriends or whatever.. then obviously as far as music goes those "talents" aren't being used in the field of music, like I said there are other pop stars who probably got a head start because of their looks but still have talent.. even though I'm not a fan of her music "Shakira" for example is actually a very unique and impressive singer and dancer, she isn't what I'm talking about, and she is also not the common trend amongst pop stars.

Talent isn't what sells these days in "pop"

An attractive person and a repetitive beat and over-used chorus record companies know they can get stuck in the heads of teenagers desperately seeking something trendy is what sells.

"Watch me whip, watch me nay nay"

Repeat repeat repeat.

Sure it's fun, sure it's "accessible" and perfectly fine to enjoy that type of music

I was making comparison of actual "musicianship" and validity as a "musician" because there is a difference it doesn't mean you can't like the less VALID musicians music
>>
>>18372040

>Godflesh's "Flowers"

Nope I love simple music brotha, I listen to AC/DC and Motörhead, manowar still regardless of how simple or cheesey any of their music is.. are you really not getting my point? I am referring to a musicians validity as a hard working musician that had to earn it themselves through trial of Fire.. I'm not referring to complexity of musicians songs I'm referring to the struggle one had to go through, the multitasking they had to do along the way, practicing and studying music, pouring their soul into something unique.. Godflesh is great, they had to fight for their music and work hard to achieve their goals. Regardless of the simplicity of that song it still came from a creative and soulful place that the band made... not a pop producer..

I am making a comparison between somebody who practiced and worked at their craft and most likely had to do most of their own lyric writing, song writing and producing, made their logo and merch for the most part as opposed to
A commercialized auto-tuned pop star that had all that stuff done for them

You seem to be skipping or cherry picking what I say each time you reply, are you slow or something? If you are that's okay

>I am referring to a musicians validity as a hard working musician that had to earn it themselves through trial of Fire

There are tons of musicians that have undergone such "trials of fire" and their music still fucking sucks, like Ghost for example... And if that's so you should be praising the producers for being good musicians, shouldn't you?

By the way, you might be thinking I'm the other anons you've been bashing your head against. My only reply to you was in >>18369635

Sure the PRODUCERS should get praise.. but they dont, and they are not what is marketed or advertised whenever a Britney Spears video or Ke$ha video is brought up..

and yes there are bands who work there ass off and suck

BUT a hard working musician that creates something unique regardless of simplicity or complexity is still more valid then a auto-tuned pop singer that doesn't do jack shit and still gets all the credit

You guys should give a shot to Scott Walker Tilt:

Every genre has shit. Every genre has talent. No genre is more valid than another.
>>
>>18373381
Didn't say genre.. I said there are musicians that are more valid then others.. and a greater majority of musicians in metal, classical, jazz, blues,Rock etc. are more valid as musicians then a majority of pop stars who are not as musically inclined .. this has nothing to do with complexity or technicality in song writing

And now very happily married and make good money.

Didn't need to gear myself towards social norms in image in order to get laid or succeed.. sounds like you had to?

>rap artists wouldn't understand polyrhythms

I get all the reasons you like metal, but that doesn't mean other genres don't have their own merits.

back in HS an old friend of mine popped this CD in his car stereo, insisting it would be good listening during an acid trip... maybe it's not as scary sober. but, a classic and very strange track by Roger Waters at any rate.

Anyone else get kind of creepy vibes from James Blake? Something about his vocals sounds kind of primal and ritualistic.

What do you call the kind of dark ambient music that's pretty much totally amusical? Whenever I search for dark ambient music I usually get spooky haunted house stuff. But what I want is the stuff that's REALLY ambient.

Is this stuff better described as musique concrete?

Is it drone? Is it drone if it doesn't have a drone in it? That sounds like a stupid question but it's not.
