So awhile back I watched some videos about a concept called a Matryoshka Brain, which is basically a super computer built around a star with the intention of collecting 100% of the energy emitted and dedicating it all to the processing power of the structure. Based on what capacity we have already achieved in programming computer generated worlds, a machine the size and power of a Matryoshka Brain could potentially be used to generate an entire universe virtually identical to our own in every way. Not only that but if we can advance our knowledge of the human brain enough to replicate it's functions via computer programming then transferring one's "concious mind" to be stored on a computer similar to the Matryoshka Brain could become a reality at some point. If we could achieve both of these things we would become almost immortal living in a perfect, simulated universe for the life of the star the structure was built around (Ours has 3-5 billion years before it dies). By doing this we could grant humanity the chance to become a tier 3 civilization. We already are progressing quite well in robotics and if we achieve the other things listed above, you could then create entirely robotic bodies with your own conciousness as its processor. We would basically become a race of sentient robots with no need for food, water, sleep or any biological necessities. We could travel for hundreds of thousands of years through space never worrying about radiation, starvation, or old age. We could colonize the galaxy, creating Matryoshka Brains at each majob star system. We could become masters of the entire universe, with the only obstacle being the death of the universe. I know this all sounds like a sci-fi wetdream, but I think it's the best chance for humanity to not only survive but to become nigh immortal beings only being outmatched by existence itself.

tl;dr

>we build big ass computer
>we become robots
>we conquer our galaxy
>we conquer the universe
>we only lose if everything comes to an end
>we become our own gods
>>
There's a story by Isaac Asimov that follows this route. It's short and worth the read! Check it out, OP!

So you mean like a Dyson sphere? only then not as a world but a computer?
The logistics are maddening but yeah if humans develop the option to digitize our conciousness a prolonged project like this could be set in motion.
We are, I believe, nowhere close to even begin contemplating such an operation before we acieve technical immortality.

The ethic hurdles we'll have to make on the road towards this will be immense, we would really cease to be the animal we are now, devoid of biological needs, procreation, motivation due to time constraint, fuck...

But what then?
>>
>>18325116
Exactly like a dyson sphere, the structure would basically collect and store all energy output by the star and use it to power the computer as well as all of the mechanical operations on the actual structure. Because of its immense size and the lack of need for a "habitable" enviorment we could have millions of automated factories and systems for things like ongoing repair of the structure, development and research of new sciences, even weapons technologies like the death star it's self if you wanted to get really intense. As far as getting to this point, we will likely nuke ourselves into oblivion before we achieve something like this. Even if we develop the ability to transfer the mind into code, the task of building the structure around our star will require strip mini every planet in our solar system including our own just because of its size. This means any humans who don't want to become robot gods are basically fucked since they would be wiped out during construction. We would have to knowingly genocide our own species to extinction to succeed.

If it was up to me, probably play Spore irl. We would gain immense knowledge of life in general, and likely in time learn to build it from raw elements. If I had trillions of years worth of time to waste, I would probably seed planets with life and watch them develop over time and study them. Maybe I would even pull some alien shit and fuck with any intellegent life that forms, make them think I'm some sun god or some bullshit.

Convert to Christianity, You speak of the luciferian transhumanist agenda that will decieve many.
>>
>>18325676
I was raised Christian, I have respect for them but I don't agree with their values. According to the bible God created men with free will, and I intend to use it. If God does exist and has issue with what I believe, then we can cross that bridge when the time comes.
>>
>>18325685
You know who didn't entities people with free will? Satan.

Keep following the agenda you don't know your following. That's sarcastic. Don't.
>>
>>18325821
Entitle*
>>
>>18325022
So instead of actually being a god, you pretend to be a god, until the machine you live in is destroyed by the world around it?
>>
>>18325821
It's a good thing Satan didn't create man then huh?
>>
>>18325022
Ok thx cool but who was phone..?
>>
>>18325850
He did create other things though
>>
As some on in the bleeding edge ai field, we don't really need this much power. that being said, I haven't heard of this, thanks op. I'll share it at work.
>>
>>18325853
Things totally unrelated to this topic. Good job retard.
>>
>>18325676
>luciferian transhumanist agenda

well what else are we supposed to do?
>>
>>18325857
No it isn't. You just haven't put enough thought into it because your minds stuck on something the system has created. Probably porn. Probably alcohol. Probably McDonald's. Anything. Who knows?
>>
>>18325862
Thank you for confirming it's not related to the topic, I knew I was right.
>>
>>18325864
I don't like the way you make confirmations. You assume things. You make assumptions.Holding assumptions leads to grudges, and that not an assumption.
>>
>>18325022
But can it run crysis 2?
>>
>>18325877
I'm sorry for being right, I suppose you'll have to just live with that fact.
>>
>>18325885
I won't though, that's the thing. You can continue living making assumptions though.
>>
>>18325842
The simulated universe would be more of just a sand box for us to play in, a place you could be or do anything you want. We would still have to interact with the universe around us to some extent, such as to travel to other younger stars and replicate the process all over again to buy us more time. The idea is within a few billion years to control an entire star system with several hundreds of thousands of mega structures.
>>
>>18325855
Need, no. But you have to admit it would be pretty bad ass to travel through space as a 10 foot tall sentient machine with access to all the knowledge the human race has ever collected and ever will collect over the course of trillions of years.
>>
>>18326052
I totally agree that it's awesome. Right now computers have momory on the cpu, ram, and a harddrive(ssd or hdd). With in the next few years there will be a new system called 3d xpoint that will be slower than ram but much much faster than an ssd. this is what will get us to being able to have human like ai.
>>
you can read the whole Orionsarm site which is a 'hard scifi' encyclopedia galactica about live 10000 years from now created in the early 2000's and is still updated today though rather dated and kinda liberal hippy shit but they do have a ton about Matroyska brains and how they would work and the virtual worlds they encompas.
>>
>>18325892
So you'll kill you self then? I mean if you can't live with facts, you'll have to die with facts, you know, on account of them being facts and all.
>>
>>18329527
Yourself* waka waka waka
>>
>>18325878
Probably not.
>>
>>18325853
He cannot create.. Only corrupt.
>>
http://localroger.com/prime-intellect/

We would become pets.
>>
>>18325022
And? WE ARE STILL FUCKED.
>Plus not sure I care for immortality. In theory it sounds nice to have as much time as you want. I don't know if it would be though.
>>
If anyone gave me all that power I'd be like darth vader or some shit because I'd be so fucking evil.
>>
>>18329876
Only if we focused on developing AI to that extent, my idea is to become our own operating system and operate everything via our own conciousness rather than relying on systems we create. This way instead of becoming slaves to machine overlords, we just become machine overlords ourselves.
>>
>>18330021
>darth vader
>evil
>>
OP, it sounds like you are describing Airl.
