I just went to sleep listening to a H.P. Lovecraft audio book and had sleep paralysis.
Don't. Fucking. Do. That.
Anybody else got sleep paralysis stories?
Its just your mind being awake and the rest being asleep. The fear part is a result of your flight or fight response, and it will only get extra spooky. If you want to enjoy the process, don't be afraid.
oh and you can't fight it because your don't have control of your body.

also it is your brain not fully coming out of REM sleep. Thats why psycho-brutal hallucinations can happen

Cthulhu does
I get SP at least once or twice a month. Last week I had it twice in a row in the same night.
Luckily, having gotten it so many times I've learned to quickly get myself out of it. Heavy, rapid breathing seems to get my body awoken, but sometimes it doesn't work fast enough and I unconsciously choke out things like "help me!" or "get off of me!" because whenever I have SP, there is always ALWAYS an invisible force pinning me down. I often experience auditory hallucinations like breathing or whispering and can feel hands or breath on me. It's really terrifying.
I find I get it most often when I'm laying on my stomach or back. I think laying on my side makes it harder for whatever it is to hold me down...
I've had sleep paralysis all my life mixed with sleep apnea, so I have a killer nightmare mix.
The most intense one was one time I woke up in my dream, in a white room with 2 beds and everything was pitch black dark, I was lying on one of the beds and suddenly my brother with a very distorted face (think Silent Hill 2 monsters) jumped on me, and started choking me so hard I started shaking in my bed, if my sister wasn't close enough to hear the rumbling of my shaking bed, I think I would've died.
I had a SP experience earlier this week where I woke up from a dream and there was this brown owl with a human face on it. The face was very normal and relaxed exept it had this odd half smile on it as it stared into my soul. It scared the shit out of me and when i put my glasses on it was gone. I figured it was SP cause I could see it so clearly without my glasses. Caused me to be super shaky all morning though.

two things OP, did you awaken to find you had been sleeping on your back? (Also, is that unusual for you?)
and two- dont fall asleep listening to/watching things. Its easier to fall into that category of "brain still awake, body asleep" that leads to SP.
