Give it to me straight /x/, do religious symbols such as crosses or Cresent moons hold any power over occult entities? What about rituals such as an exorcism? Do you have to be an ordained person such as a catholic priest?
>>
Yes they do, but they're only a channel and amplification tool for your own Faith through the power gifted by the Holy Spirit. No you don't have to be ordained, but you need to be open to God.

They are dependent on your faith/belief, as well as whatever entity you're dealing with. The better question is why you think you pissed something off and/or need them. Etiquette is important.

There are a fuck ton of religions that all represent their viewpoint as the one and only truth, so clearly they are all fucking bullshit.

"My religion/god is true/real, i don't care about the others."

Would it blow your mind if that's how everyone else thought? It's the perfect way to keep people divided over NOTHING. Absolutely nothing.

Cute example: The Catholic church has a liturgical year. If you paid attention in funday school, you know that the readings from the Mass literally start over every three years. As in, they repeat the same fucking bullshit over and over and over.

It blows my mind that religious people don't have a problem with this obvious ridiculousness, and they will likely be offended that you can easily tear down their "safe-place" facade.

Since occult beings are entities comprised of abstract concept and ideas without a physical form, they are susceptible to other abstract concepts and the belief in them. Having something easily identifiable, real, and physical to focus on and believe in is a lot easier than just believing in the things that that symbol stands for.

But, that's why you need to be "open to God". If you are using an item you don't believe will work or don't understand, then of course it's going to do nothing.

Less certainly and more approaching the realm of fiction is the idea that certain occult beings (such as demons) are affected by certain iconography simply because it annoys them. For example, a demon may be annoyed by the appearance of a cross/crucifix because it's had this obnoxious piece of wood thrown in its metaphorical face in an attempt to thwart it so many times over the recent years. And, even more annoyingly for the demon, it's had success. So, a demon may go out of its way to react in a condescending manner toward a certain icon only to have that wasted time lead to its defeat.

This sort of belief/hatred relationship could lead to a cascading effect of exponentially increasing power in an icon as well. If the icon works, then people will believe it works more. Then, it works better because people believe it works better. Then, the occult being reacts more angrily, then the person believes it works more. Thus, older icons (which are still in use) are often more powerful than newer stuff or icons which have become forgotten. Icons which have been forgotten losing their power is the basis for many horror fictional works such as Egyptian curses and other such occurrences and entities coming from ancient places where the icons which once held the beings at bay are no longer understood.

Calm your fedora, and trim your neckbeard. Everyone who knows anything about religion knows that even God doesnt like the catholic church. Thats why Martin Luther freed the slaves.
