Perhaps you were focusing intensely on the growing "hole" in your mind's eye, and maybe being tired in bed and all, your consciousness drifted off into a very vivid daydream. Laughing is also a distinct human sound that people often perceive from ambiguous noise or imagine vividly.

I have this, happens randomly, several times a year.
Only happens as I am falling asleep.
Makes my whole body jump vertically, instantly several inches off the bed.

If either of my cats are on the bed they flee, so I know it is real.

I cant explain your visuals though.

I hear the explosion, I hear a very fast big bang, like a gunshot with no echo, no resounding, no after effects, I believe it to be a grenade under my pillow, so it sounds sort of softened s little.
It is not one of those big long cataclysmic explosions that you see in the movies that take seconds to run their path. ie not a bbbkkkrrrssshhhroooommmaaahhhhkkkk but more like a massive fast POP!!!

No messages, no creatures, no visuals, no voices. Even though I am seeing psychs and shrinks and medicated and shit, its all normal everyday fucked up personality rubbish.

I do not find it scary, my heart rate does not rise, it does not make me sweat. I just calmly say to my self "shit, woke up, that was interesting" then calmly get back to my going to sleep again routine.
