For tulpamancy to be defined as mental illness it needs to start to impair life of person, hence being called illness.

Tulpas are not mental illness. Unless things between you and tulpa go wrong and tulpa is strong enough because you gave it too much control or it existed for too long. In this case you either end up with sentient intrusive-though/ocd or in worst case if you teached tulpa to possess/switch with you and they can do it without your permission you end up with MPD/DID/DDNOS.

tl;dr tulpamancy is not mental illness but it's very likely to become one, also it's playground for dumb niggers who were too lazy to wake up at 5 AM to practice lucid dreaming. Like for real guys, lucid dreaming is easier, faster and better overall than tulpamancy. And obviously safer.

i used to love the tulpa threads on /mlp/ i might actually have to go check out the trash one just to see how many furfags are there being weird.

I prefer the broad usage of the term "tulpa" and do believe in some senses it can be perfectly concrete and verifiable. Taken outside the paranormal realm (although in some cases, it still is) many artists create tulpas to distance their person from their work. Some say the reasoning is to create a brand or cult following, but more often then not, it's for distance. Cher, Prince, Lil B, even made up names like Bob Dylan, they are just characters created by artists that they play, some all the time.

So, that's one form of a tulpa I guess, and you can treat it as such too. It takes a great deal of concentration and practice to really get a character going, and in this case I guess you can call it a possession as well.
