Hate to sound like a buzzkill but I don't think the whole clown thing is even relatively spooky anymore.

It's scary when it's an isolated incident and has some sort of mystery behind it but when it's happening everywhere in America you realize it's just become a dumb viral fad.

Dressing up like a clown and having your friends overreact on camera isn't very scary.

Here's a concept that, for centuries, has been a completely normal staple of children's entertainment. There's been a sinister clown story here or there, but for the most part they've represented lighthearted fun, even if some people are afraid of them.

It's only been in the last thirty years or so that clowns became a horror fixation, and only really these last few that a kid is more likely to know clowns as a type of monster first and a performance style second (if at all.) And now, with these "clown sightings", they're becoming this sort of faux-cryptid.

Stupid as this clown craze thing is, it's a fascinating example of human culture evolving.

Motivation doesn't mute effect. The reason people want to do it doesn't mean it won't move clowns further into a certain direction of societal perception.

I'm not looking deep into anything, just stating exactly what's happening: Clowns mean something different to people than they did twenty years ago and there's something interesting about that.

Yes, people have considered clowns creepy for as long as they've existed, but it's only very recently that those people have become the majority. Or at least have become outspoken enough to reveal themselves as the majority. The mainstream hadn't really decided clowns were more likely to be creepy than innocent fun until the 80's.

It's hard to know what to expect here. On one hand, if creepy Clowns wanted to cause chaos, Halloween would be the one night they could blend in and do it. On the other hand, trigger-happy /k/ommandos are already threatening to shoot any clown on sight, so you'd think anyone who wanted to dress up as a clown previously would do the sensible thing and stay out of it this year.

1. If you see a strange ass glowing tent in the middle of the woods at night, DO NOT FUCK WITH IT.

2. If you get shot with a popcorn gun and escape, make sure you shake out ALL your clothing and change outfits. Destroy any popcorn remnants.

3. Keep a knife on you at all times in case you need to cut free from a balloon/ball thing. Unfortunately, if you're trapped in the cotton candy cocoon, it's probably too late for you, the stuff appears to kill fast.

8. Killer Klown babes are slutty and will probably allow you to seduce them no matter how big a loser you are. If you're into that sort of thing. But is it worth the risk of getting killed by the other Klowns? You decide.

9. Do not drive around in an ice cream truck in the hopes of scoring with human females or surviving the Klownpocalypse in general, even if said truck has a clown on top that can momentarily fool your opponents. Instead, consider an armored tank with a clown on top, just in case.

10. The most important thing you can remember: AIM FOR THE NOSE!
