This is not really correct. /x/ skinwalkers are not Native SKinwalkers. A native skinwalker is the name of a cannibal that is "cursed", a real skinwalker is a cryptid/demon/what have you that does something to steal someones body. Skinwalkers do not have an off cadence, that's a Goatman, a similar, but harmless being. Creepy as fuck, but in the end harmless. Same thing about walking, thats a goatman.

For defense of skinwalkers, bring a friend with you into the woods. I don't know much about NM, but I don't believe you guys have skinwalkers being desert, but I'm not sure. deserts have worse things. Anyway, a skinwalker will either appear in another humans form you don't know, or will "take' you or your friend while away from your camp and separated. For whatever reason, skinwalkers don't take you at your camp, maybe it's some not entering a dwelling rule, I don't know. They'll try to lure you over to 'look at something'. ever let someone go alone for a piss or firewood. Skinwalkers don't appear in their true form in visible light supposedly, so keep a fire going to essentially create a radius in the night. One thing they say is, "I wouldn't worry about it". Skinwalkers perfectly copy someones appearance and voice, but don't have any info about the background of who they've taken. They'll try to collect info from devices, or people. Ask someone who you think has been taken about something they definitely remember. When they get it wrong, you have a skinwalker. There's never been a reported story of what they do, whether they posses, or kill, or what.

No one who's experienced it has told the tale. If you're out and about with believers, brief them before entering the forest, if you're around non believers, just beat around the bush about it, but talk about never leaving the camping area, or leaving without a buddy. SKinwalkers are overcreep, but they won't attack you at a campsite (AFAIK) and definitely when with someone. A skinwalker with your friends skin is essentially harmless to you if you don't follow it to where they want to show you. At this point, go home and cut ties with your former friend, they'll be changed. Usually they eat lost pets or some shit, that's all I know. Ask if you've got other quessions

I spent some time on the reservation while I was there and asked the Navajos about a lot of their stories. This is what I've learned from the Medicine Man:

The Navajo say that they really just fuck with people and cause mischief in their lives. They don't eat/kill people, or steal their souls, or anything like that.

The only story I've ever heard of anyone killing a skinwalker in is, where a skinwalker took the body of a druggie during a party in the woods, and someone else, the narrator, shot him up with heroin because they thought he was withdrawing and acting weird. The next day he basically looked like a month old corpse, but that may have been a goatman. Weapons don't work, and while you can hit it, it won't die. No one's ever done it. They bleed black blood supposedly. Also, white ash is a meme, weapons are for your morale, not for defense. Weapons don't appear to piss them off any more, but they don't scare them either.
