How do you meditate /x/? What's a simple clean cut way for someone who hasn't before, is there any particular pose I have to take while sitting? I understand it wouldn't be easy at first.
>>
>>18241881
for newbies I suggest a nice quiet and comfortable place, preferably with fresh air, and just try to sit comfortably, but at attention.
Typically I try to just empty my mind of thoughts and reach what I call an "unbiased point of view" which essentially means you've left your ego at the doorstep and are observing life at it's purest form.

Honestly poses are for hardcore meditation. or yoga.
You really just want to get the hang of having the right mentality first.
Any questions just ask.
>>
>>18241891

What possibilities open to one once they learn to meditate?
>>
>>18241881
I second the inquiry even if I have done it sporadically

>>18241891
What to do if visions pop in?
>>
>>18241922
Well mentally speaking you can expect to be a lot calmer, and definitely more at peace (seeing as that kind of the goal). Generally I only meditate to slow down, contemplate a problem, or simply to balance myself. Most particularly outstanding effects of mediation take a lot of time and dedication. Shifts in gravity, sensory increase, minor color hallucination is normal.

>>18241925
>What to do if visions pop in?
Honestly you likely wont see visions unless you meditate for a few hours. Sometimes if youve been in a "meditative state" (kinda like that point in the morning where you are still somewhat asleep) for a good portion of the day, and you start meditating, you might get something with in an hour, but it's different for everyone.
>>
a lit candle,and tratakam practice.

>>18241881

A simple saying helps if you are trying some basic meditation.
>>
>>18241881
>How to properly meditate
bash your head against the wall until your IQ drops low enough that youre able to stop thinking on command. then brag about it because thats what idiots do. congrats, you can now properly meditate. real people with average intelligence try to fix their problems and their source of anxiety, instead of not thinking about them
>>
don't listen to any of this other nonsense
learning to wet your pants is the first step
It feels really good and is nice and warm
>>
>>18241881

Lay down in a quiet place. Get comfy and try to relax as much as possible.

Then try to clear your mind. Hard to do because you're always thinking and hearing yourself make random thoughts. Best thing to do is try and let them pass through your mind without dwelling on them. Envision it as sitting still and watching cars go by on the highway. Eventually the road will be empty.

Then just enjoy the mental silence.

There are different kinds of meditations, I really like mindulness meditation, with mindfulness, for a beginner, it is recommended to start out with guided meditations.

put your headphones on, get comfy in your chair, listen to this:
https://www.calm.com/session/fEG3tLEsAP

if you want to go deeper, here are more free resources:
http://www.freemindfulness.org/download

if you start to get really into it and want to get to really get into mindfulness I'd recommend this book and audio cd (bascially everything by Jon Kabat-Zinn):

You are so completely retarded it's funny.
I'm not even going to help you because you don't deserve it. You're way too into your own asshole.

You have no clue what meditation is and you denigrate it. Truly the act of a puffed-up ignoramus.

either you've been meditating since day one or you're in for a long as gonads in a pickle bottle ride of a lifetime.

you're way late to the game, seriously.

comfortable is good

well fed is better

don't try to meditate on a shit

make sure you walk at least 1/4 mile per day

go read some Jung/ dream psychology. freud is literally shit with mommy issues

all questions are argument starters

answer no questions

>>18241948
I can see visions at moment one

don't meditate on a candle...make a sparkly blue blinkler out of a blue LED and 25 cent circuitry....its better for you and doesn't burn your house out

try the infinity symbol. trace it in your mind without moving your eyes

never roll over.

beware lucid dreams. they will give you more to meditate upon and are not a beginner task

sit still until...
you
are
happy.
>>
>>18241881
first you need intent. what do you want to achieve? do you wish to alleviate stress, do you wish to improve health, do you wish to connect further with yourself? are you beginning down a spiritual path?.
once you have something your trying to achieve, meditation is about quieting the mind, body and soul so that they may act as one or inner peace. with all aspects of you aligned, less conflict and distraction you have more lets say spare will power for what it is you are trying to achieve.
>>
>>18241881
>What's a simple clean cut way for someone who hasn't before, is there any particular pose I have to take while sitting?

Yes.

Google, "zazen". Anything less is not meditating.
>>
>>18241881
allow everything to be as it is
>>
http://www.unlock-your-happiness.com/conscious-mental-rest.html

This site looks like one of those 'scientists hate him find out why' tier scam sites, but it's just shitty web design. I have read pretty much everything there is to read about meditation, and I found this particular way of meditating the most effective for me, and the guy explains it well.

No matter what you do, the most important thing is to relax and let the mind naturally settle.
>>
>>18241948
No, I get them like 20 mins. into it.

Short, jolting image with no discernible relation to anything. I remember three people around a table once, another one was some sort of electrical box.

Once per session so far, really fleeting, make no sense: like falling asleep hallucinations or the start of a dream, except I'm not asleep and they don't develop at all
>>
>>18242573
>No, I get them like 20 mins. into it.
you sure it's not just an active imagination?
Still to answer the question just let them happen. the idea is to remain meditative and allow visions to wash over you like a boulder on the beach.
>>
>>18242596
Of course there is no way for me to discern a priori whether they're "just" imaginations or not, and it would certainly be cautious to regard them as such.

Anyways, you answered my question. I guess I should neither try to stop them nor dwell upon them.
>>
>>18242611
when you finish meditating, and they've stuck with you it's okay to mull over them, but while meditating you generally want to keep the same mentality.
>>
i meditated in a dream last night
it increased lucidity so much it felt as real as i do whilst typing this

I hope he notices how retarded he is one day, for his health.
>>
There is no proper way, whatever works for you is the way you should do it, most people meditate differently, because everyone's experience is their own
>>
Just focus on one point where your skin touches something. Every time your mind wanders just focus back on that point where your skin is touching something.
>>
>>18246063
>There is no proper way,

Yeah, there is, or rather there are certainly improper ways.

>>18246074

lel
>>
>>18246139

Will you offer anything constructive or are you just here being a dick?

Also there is no proper way. There are traditional ways and other ways, but the traditional ways aren't MORE correct for being traditional. You clearly don't know a fucking thing if you honestly believe you can meditate wrong.
>>
>>18246147
>Also there is no proper way.

That's because you have neither experience nor deep knowledge of the subject.
>>
>>18246165

Ah I see you're a troll now.
>>
>>18246176

You're emotionally invested in this, so you have to pretend I'm a troll. You don't have much experience or understanding. Your comments are evidence that this is so.
>>
>>18246185

Then produce something to show you have "experience and deep knowledge". A link even.

Obviously you can't, because you're a troll.
>>
>>18246191
>Then produce something to show you have "experience and deep knowledge". A link even.

That's childishly silly.

Knock knock, it's /mu/

Try these ambient tracks - their sonorous depths and repititions, both relaxing and arcane, helps me to meditate very deeply.

cool. well done /x/. good usering. carry on
>>
>>18241881
i just sit or lie down, breathe in a calm manner and gradually move my attention inwards to the point that i can vaguely perceive my surroundings, i don't even fix the attention on my breath desu. From there i can visualize clearly, do mental rituals and when i go back i feel completely relaxed and rejuvenated. This relaxation at the beginning lasted for about half an hour after meditating, but gradually it has increased to many hours. I generally feel better and like my inner world is connected to the outside, like the feeling of being more than a piece of matter totally unrelated to the rest. It depends however, on what do you mean by "meditation", as many people especially in the west take it as an attention exercise, the more you can fix on a point the better.
>>
>>18241881
>sit down in the dark
>close your eyes
>music is optional but it might help for shutting out other sensory stimuli and focusing you, something hypnotic with repetitive patterns would be best
>you know how when hypnotists wave their little pendulums and say you're getting very sleepy? do something like that to yourself. What you're trying to do is reach a state that's similar to that without falling asleep. I tend to imagine a very spikey and erratic waveform slowly unwinding and decreasing in amplitude. You want to go deeper and get more relaxed, not the other way around. Focusing on a descent rather than an ascent makes it easy because you're really trying to peel back the layers in your mind.
>during this time it is very important not to think about things that stress or worry you because they'll bring you right out of it, you have to focus on whatever it is you're using to get into a hypnotic state and let go of everything else
>once you're "there" you'll know it because that's when the first signs of an altered state of consciousness start coming up, and I also find that once you're "there" it's harder to break out of it, so the earlier phases are the hardest part
>it's still very important not to actively think about things that make you feel like you have to act in some way, though, because intentional thought is too excitatory.
>at this point what always happens to me is my mind starts rambling all on its own, like a nonstop babbling about this or that, very tangential
>if you listen to these thoughts but don't interfere with them you can find yourself thinking things you might not have known that you think about, and that's pretty cool
>after that goes on for awhile the hallucinatory phase begins, these thoughts that were verbal before will pop up as images
>if you let them do their thing or you find one that can serve as a new focus for you, they can grow into entire lucid dreams that feel much more real than any dream you have while sleeping
>>
>>18246139
An improper way to you could most certainly work for someone else, is what I mean, you need to find out for yourself what works for you
>>
>>18246637

There might always be outliers, but they will be rare.

For most people, there will be broadly preferable techniques, because they have broadly similar minds and physiologies. Exceptions don't change this.
>>
Do i have to close my eyes or keep them open?
>>
>>18246676

Half-open is probably best.
>>
>>18246598
Thats the thing that helped i find the most interesting. I am an absolute noob and tried to do that while laying on my back in the dark without moving. At first i did it to get sleepparalysis (was curious) and later i thought i could try meditating that way since it was really relaxing after all. However i never got far enough yet to get to what you describe even though those were my goals. I either sleep or lay there for over an hour. So what could be the reason?
Is lying on the back just not good for meditating? Is it that i do it just to irregulary? (I do it every few days but for some time now)
Or is doing before sleep just not good (thats when its dark after all)
>>
>>18246806
>what could be the reason

fear, probably
>>
>>18246981
Of what? Im not scared. In fact it could be that im too hyped. Sometimes when i feel i get deeper relaxed im sometimes like "oh boy! Here it goes! Lets see what this is all about." And snap a bit out of it
>>
>>18247013
You are consciously aware of all your fears?

Then I shouldn't be giving you advice you should be giving me advice.
>>
>>18241881

It depends entirely on what you're looking to get out of entering the practice. I know it's a major faux pas to say anything positive about Reddit around here, but their meditation subreddit has a decent thread for beginners which breaks down all of the major/popular forms of meditation, including their ease of adoption and general purpose or central focus.

With that said, there are more "fringe" forms of meditation with other purposes in mind that typically entwine with occult practices. The general idea with them is to serve as a means of centering yourself and learning how to focus and project/manifest your will, which is a common element in many magical rituals and occult paths. This goes by many names since there are so many forms of it, a common one though is power meditation. You'll usually find this within the LHP crowd.

Again, depends entirely on your intentions as a few others have mentioned as well. Hope that helps.
>>
>>18241881
I'm an experienced meditator, meditating at least one hour a day for many years now and I have to tell you that, for me, watching gore videos and extreme hardcore porn right before meditating, has helped a lot.
>>
>>18247033
Of course there always could be back in my subconscious im unaware about, but its just that i dont seem to feel threatened in any way.
So if it is fear, how should i overcome it? How do i find out fear of what?
>>

Focus on your breathing, but not to the point where you're straining it.. Let it flow freely.

Do not pause thought, observe thought.. Observe how your thoughts bounce of other thoughts.

Another method I learned is to add some music you enjoy or relaxing music to the experience..
Observe the difference between LISTENING FOR, and hearing what is.
Notice how you try to direct your hearing awareness to the location of the sound, rather than your own eardrum.. then observe the sounds from the eardrum.

With practice, you will learn to fluctuate your attention.. & enter into different levels of trance.

As you adept, you will gain the ability to enter astral planes / lucid dreaming... Where you'll be just aware enough to learn how to manipulate the fabric of astral fluid / simulation.

Which has BOUNDLESS potential, anything you can think of possible to be decoded by your 5 senses.. can be created.
