The problems of the world are all caused by bad habits: bad behavioral habits and bad mental habits. In a society these individual bad habits form a tangled mess that results in bad social and cultural habits. These in turn reinforce bad individual habits in a vicious cycle.

Changing it from the top-down doesn't work because the bad individual habits quickly negate the change. Society is comprised of people, after all. We're essentially trying to make psychology as rigorous a science as the hard sciences and a way to viralize this - an automatic cord-untangler. Normally I wouldn't be authorized to post this, but at this stage this post with it's self-awareness is part of this project itself by framing the problem here.

You're going off of what you want to be true. It is comforting to scapegoat and focus on a target: remove the target and everything is good! Mission Accomplished.

It is impossible to get rid of these parasitic structures from the top-down because of the self-reinforcing nature between them and individual's bad habits and beliefs. You're vastly overestimating the power those at the top have: they're aware of the problem but are just as chained to it as you and I. If the system collapses on itself it would result in mass death and chaos, and new systems just as bad or worse would be erected, and our opportunity is lost. The cycle perpetuates.

The system of the world, this whole meta-structure of all these different social, cultural, and individual habits, has locked humanity into an extremely difficult strategical logic: if the system loses we all lose, if the system wins we lose a little less. It is like a parasite that cannot be cut out of its host without killing the host. It is too big to fail. The solution is to strengthen the immune system well enough that the parasite is infected by the blood it sucks and dies. This is strengthening the habitual immune system of people.
