That's ironic considering my teacher shut the movie off after that scene to demand why the entire class was laughing so hard.

It was the early 2000s and I was 7, my teacher gave me a tape that was like an anthology kids show. From what I remember one of the stories had a kid riding on a magic carpet to get cookies. The story that stood out to me had these fucked up looking puppets harassing a kid alllll day. One of the puppets was retarded or something and could only scream "wwwwaaah"

Not necessarily. If you're a fast learner, a belt can be an effective teacher. If you're an idiot that can't associate the pain with your wrong doing, then you may end up "beat" , but for most it's just idiocy or early onset of masochism that makes repeated beltings necessary.

Anon not giving a shit is just apathy.

>>
>>18213411

You're half right, but the central component is, whether the dude hitting you actually is trying to help you out or not. Maybe once might be okay or something.

But that shit never was and never is necessary.

In fact, you're completely wrong. Kids are just little, confused, sensitive people. You shouldn't hit them. It's never right. You're just trying to determine whether you can forgive the old man, and that's up to the individual.

But the action was never right.

Our brains our wired to understand pleasure vs pain until late into our teens.

Have you ever attempted a moral debate with a 5 year old? It's just not possible. Empathy hasn't developed yet; the capacity just isn't there. Even without a belt a whopping is the most effective behavioral modification for any preteen. Unless they happen to be highly intelligent or advanced for their age.
The action may not be "right", but it's the most effective way. Doing good for goodness sake is (in the absence of personal gain) uncomprehensible to a child's mind. You might be lucky in teaching one child this concept without pain as a motivator, but try teaching a five year old while allowing the tantrums of a "terrible two" in their presence. It just doesn't work. Or maybe my kids were just stubborn as hell.

Also, the squidward toenail scene (I was older so it didn't affect me but it probably affected some people here)

A couple weird shows I watched in Kindergarten class-in particular this green guy made of plants that got sad because they tried to civilize him. (If someone here knows of it I will be very pleased)

I also learned that my father said he was freaked out by "dream weaver" and the one part of "Fly like an eagle" in case that resonates with anyone here.

Finally I remember a song playing when I was like 3 that disturbed me-but it most likely is a fabricated memory.

I think we're both right, this is fairly productive. I don't think hitting is bad in and of itself. Sometimes I wish I got hit to correct some of the things that later made me fuck up and go insane. Sometimes I'm full of hate over the little tiny times I did get hit and I remember them with socio rage. But sometimes I'm grateful just for the balance. Grateful I got it when I did, grateful I didn't get it when I didn't. We're all just figuring it out. You're probably a good dude.

Roald Dahl audiobooks are a sin. Also, audiobooks in your youth?

When I was a really little kid I was absolutely terrified of The Mask. I was so scared of that movie that I still get a little spooked when I see things associated with Mask himself (a zoot suit, neon green and yellow, masks sticking to people and not coming off, Jim Carey himself, etc.). I still want nothing to do with that kookie fucker. The fear is definitely not as intense as when I was a kid but it isn't gone.

Also I remember watching a ghost documentary show where its basically a narrator telling a story with clips of transparent people walking around and one particular scene fucked me up where a lady apparently fell to her death after being spooked by a demon at the top of a stairwell railing. A brown, furry pig-dog's snarling face showed on screen for a split second and I didn't sleep alone for about a few months after that. I think I may have been 6 or so when I first saw it.

Also the part in The Haunting (1999) where the house starts to move like its breathing and glaring at Elanor when she's in bed. Loved that movie though, even as a kid.

Otherwise I'm not the type to get scared by a whole lot. It's very hit or miss with me.

Children do need to be physically disciplined, however, it should never be with an object, only with an open palm and to cause pain, not injury. Using a belt is no different than whipping your child. In the event that you witness the child about to misbehave, you warn them that they will be spanked if they don't stop. Follow through with it, too, or you will be seen as a pushover by the child. If you are in public or in polite company, take them to the bathroom or a similar private setting and do it there, or if that is impossible, make it clear that they will be spanked when they get home. Finally the most important part: if the child is old enough to have a discussion with you, ask them if they know why they were spanked, and explain to them why if they didn't know or why they did it if they did know. Understanding and communication is the most important thing about parenting, aside from the obvious, like keeping the kid happy and healthy.

Critters.

I can't remember if the scene was from 1 or 2, but it's one of the opening scenes where the little girl hangs her foot off the edge of the bed. She has a few Critter eggs under the bed, these things hatch and the Critter starts coming toward her foot and ALMOST bites her. Thirty years old and I still can't bring myself to hang my feet off the edge of the bed if they'll be near the gap underneath.
>>
>>18213656

We watched this on four hits of LSD a few months back. That shit was extremely traumatizing. Had to look away at the scene where they sucked out the Gelfling's soul with the Dark Crystal and go outside for a cigarette so I didn't have a mental breakdown. Shit was intense.
>>
>>18214406
I used to be terrified of the Critters when I was a kid. It took me years to muster up the courage to watch one of the movies, and then it became one of my favorite franchises and I wasn't scared of them anymore. It was just in the brief glimpses of them in commercials and the video covers that scared me.

I used to love both the X-Files and Tales From the Crypt when I was little, but I was also terrified of both their intros lol. Mostly for the spooky stretched out face in X-Files, and when the Crypt Keeper pops up outta the coffin.

Faces like that along with those faces in the Ring and those vampire faces in the original Fright Night get under my skin so easily, but only when its out of context. Watching the movies themselves arent that scary, its only when you see them out of context/when unexpected is when they're most effective. That's why they make such good screamer material.

Fucked me up good regardless when I watched them when I was younger.

I remember being horrified looking at the screen, and when I broke out of it I look back to see this poor guy stuck staring in horror with an overwhelming look of dread on his face. I had to distract him and whip out a beanbag frog stuffed animal thing and make it dance to break him out of his personal hell.

I don't have an image of it.
But when I was a kid (maybe 7-8 years old) I was sitting at my parents computer watching super mario videos.
I ended up at one video which had really really bad audio so i turned the volume up to max. At the end of the video there was a fucking loud screamer (A baby doll with pale white skin and gauged out eyes with blood pouring out of them)

I fucking tossed my headset straight into the computer screen and ran to my parents bed and would just sitt there curled up and crying hysterically without daring to move or put my feet on the ground.

To this very day I don't dare to watch any youtube videos without being careful and checking through them for screamers.

That video fucked me up forever.

The big boss monsters in DooM, like the spiderdemon and cyberdemon, freaked me out. I think it was the fact that the game had shitty graphics so you couldn't see the monsters in detail and your imagination had to fill in the blanks. I don't believe I had Internet at the time, so I couldn't exactly look up pictures of monsters either. Getting a good look at the creatures was often quickly followed by death. The idea of an wrathful all-powerful giant with the thundering mechanical feet is just generally pretty scary when you are a kindergartner.

I distinctly remember having nightmares that the cyberdemon was in my closet and, on one occasion, seeing the spiderdemon's face and having to stay up late watching Looney Tunes to be able to get to sleep.

On an unrelated note, getting attacked by a dog after giving it eye contact for too long fucked me up more than anything. I kind of think I may not have developed Asperger's if not for a specific phobia of looking at anyone or anything in the eyes for any period of time.

This is the thing I came here to post. The bathrooms at both my house and the babysitter's house had those royal blue rugs and seat covers and I was absolutely convinced that the toilet was going to come alive the second I dropped my pants. I *still* think about that every time I go into a bathroom decorated with that color.
>>
>>18215714
It's funny to think about the difference between the stuff which terrified me as a child and what didn't. We had Doom from the time it came out and I grew up playing it, but aside from the expected "Oh fuck, something is in the next room which is going to fuck me up" feelings, I was never actually scared of the game. I also fucking loved horror movies and got my mom to rent them as often as possible. None of that stuff ever gave me nightmares or made me afraid of going places alone or whatever.

But things like the toothed, talking toilet and the guy from AYAOTD with the blue jello oozing out of his mouth? That shit fucked my world. I don't know how my mind selected what it would/would not be afraid of but it always seemed to be that the more surreal/implausible something was, the more terrifying it could be. Not a great approach, really, considering how many dangerous real things/people there are in our world worthy of being feared.

First horror movie i ever watched at maybe age 7? a Goosebumps movie, this one i think?

From what i can remember everyone in the town is dead and at the end it's revealed the family's dog also died. I remember being absolutely hysterical over the thought of that poor dead dog. i went home from my friends house where we watched it and couldn't stop crying. my mum tried to tuck me into bed and i just kept asking her about death and what happens to animals when they die and ghosts and shit.

Also when i was about 12 or 13 i watched half of the movie Stigmata and couldn't sleep for a fucking week.

I was not even young, but these things just look like they could snap at any second and become evil.

Good thing the pink girl was mad cute, and the blue MC was pretty charismatic, so they made the times I actually watched an episode or two, more tolerable.

Does anyone know where i can find a clip of that guy getting eaten by the nanobots in Agent Cody Banks? That made me cry when i was little.

Lots of people manage to teach their children without ever hitting them. I never had a problem babysitting my neighbors kids. They were all preteens and I never touched them. I just told them hey, you can't be doing that, ie, playing on my bfs computer and simple shit like that and they listened. And their dad never hit them that I know of. Don't know about their mom however but they never said anything about getting spankings.
When I was growing up in the south it was pretty common to get beat as a child, whether it be a spanking or something worse. But kids would always talk about it, including myself.
Any kid that has communication skills, even of the simplest form is gonna understand what you're saying to them and if they don't, you can explain it and because they just absorb info, they will usually just believe you.
Not only that but kids mentioning things or trying to find a way to bring up uncomfortable subjects can be pretty obvious. I know I talked about my mom beating me cause I didn't like it. Same with my friends as a child. There was just nothing to be done because it was the south and this was back in the mid 90s. The no spank movement hadn't reached that area yet... if it ever did..

Hope you find your inner peace someday so you can peacefully watch videos m8.
Protip: If the audio it's too fucked or too low, then it will probably has a surprise
Protip 2: read the comments
Protip 3: it's better be shocked against screamers or spooky stuff because once you become numb it's kind of boring
Protip 4: Try not using headphones so even if the screamer catches you by surprise, it will not hurt your ears

That goosebumps was really depressing, and genuinely the scariest one. Im pretty sure i cried the first time i saw it. i was happy to see RL Stine petting the dog at the very end though.
>>
>>18214380
Nah. My mom did all that. Explained why first, hit me with an open palm on my ass as hard as she could, or at least hard enough to make an 8 year old girl cry. Had to get dressed myself and she would continue explaining why and what I needed to do next time to not get spanked.

I don't speak to that bitch anymore. Or my dad.

you know the worst part about this thing as a kid? Its an INSTANT FUCKING CUT. So suddenly its courage and then this thing, out of the blue, with no warning. My childself and even now can easily make the mistake that the TV had been taken over by something else.

Good god, i thought some creepy ass thing was talking to me for a solid minute.

My mom had a tape set of this book. And it had that face on the cover... I was so sacred of it. (I was like 5 or 6) She would hide it on top of the fridge so I wouldnt freak out... But sometimes she would bring it down from on top of the fridge and get a kick out of showing me it... And I would freak out and run away...

P.s. My biggest fear as a child was aliens... I would dream about them.... And my mom was a cunt... And left a year or two later... And we never heard from her again shortly after that...

The intro to Are You Afraid Of The Dark. Not sure why. It was just the intro, too; the show itself I didn't have any problems with, but I more or less refused to look at the screen for the first few seconds.
Parts of the X Files intro horrified me, too. Specifically, the part where the human shape falls into a hand print. No idea why that part fucked me up so bad but I'd hide my face whenever that part came up.

This.

The Goosebumps TV version traumatized me as a kid. That combined with the Chucky movies has given me a permanent fear of dolls.

I used to be forced to sleep in a bedroom that had a doll collection as well when I was a kid. I always slept with my head under the covers because I was convinced that they would "wake up" at night and move around the room.

There was a run on series my nursery/early primary school used to show on wednesdays called 'Through the Dragon's Eye' kinda fucked up, if I remember correctly the villain was jank and someone gets sucked into a quagmire etc

entirely meant for school viewing as well so I think its kinda esoteric
>>

actually looking back on it the villain had a boss tier design, it must of been the 'mighty boosh' tier production/costumes/themes that made the whole thing creepy as fuck

My brother had pretty much all the books and I was very fascinated by the covers so I would sometimes dig through the box of books just to look at them. The Night Of The Living Dummy ones were nope tier though. Especially the third one with the whole family staring at you.
This one time, I was like 7, I was home alone. I decided to just look through them because I was bored. I looked at the NOTLD 3 and it spooked me a bit. From that moment on I could swear I kept seeing small shadowy figures hiding behind corners whenever I would look in one's direction. It scared me a bit so I just stayed in my room until my parents came home. Thankfully it was during the day time where I could see everything. If it was at night I would've been scared shitless.

Pic related also scared me whenever I looked at it.

I had all kinds of scary shit happen to me as a kid, from those scary popup videos to clowns harassing me...but all of compare to one night when I was roughly 4-6 years old.

I was with my mother who had taken us to a friend of hers house to see an event she really wanted us to go to. We'll refer to this woman as "V," and she was actually my mother's cousin's ex. She was a bit of churchie but generally seemed like a level headed woman in retrospect. Anyway, she had taken us to one of those church plays where they interpret gospels and various other stories on stage and it was seemingly innocent enough until roughly 15 minutes of the way in.

The turning point of this story happened when the "devil" appeared on stage in what is still, to this day, the most horrific thing I've ever seen...even accounting horror films and the like. Though my memory is muddy in areas, imagine two-face from Batman mixed with Captain Howdy, the girl from the Exorcist and then some. They had a projection screen on the stage where they focused on his face (which was staring right at me in particular) as he went on and on though a voice changer how we would all burn in hell for our sins. The lights would flicker and flash with red and other sfx like screaming and lightning in the background as he did his little speech. At one point in the play, some hooded figures came up on stage and started speaking in tongues, though I can't really remember why. Towards the end of the play, they had strobe lights festooned over the audience where the hooded figures came up to the audience (me being one of them) as they ran off towards the exit.

I know I'm missing parts due to my memory, but that was definitely the jist of it. Suffice to say, I was not a happy camper that night. We later found out that it was actually "V's" boyfriend's idea that night to take us there, whom we found out much later, was actually convicted of manslaughter and recently out of prison.

>not knowing what the hell I was looking at when I first saw this scene when I was 7
>seeing for the first time what literally lay inside this thing
>not wanting to see the next 15 seconds or so of this video that follows for the next few years as it scared the shit out of me

It creeped me out more than anything else I watched at the time.
