I'm working on an /x/ et /k/ pixel-art game and I would like some help developing the world.

Basics are: You play as an assistant to the caretaker of a religious orphanage. You are also an orphaned resident there. (Religion is heavily based on Christianity, besides some differences in symbols, it's effectively the same).
The tutorial section takes you through some basic functions of the game (how the health system works, combat controls, etc.) as well as the setup for the story. In short, some priest has been secretely playing the harlot with other cosmic entities, and it unleashes all sorts of spoopy stuff upon the orphanage.
The first half of the game is stealth/puzzler that gets incrementally easier as you go along. (At least, the enemies do less damage.) The actual combat section doesn't come along until the player character meets God in a vision/ dream. (Pic related. I envision a little cutscene that employs some paralaxing, having the player see more and more of the figure as the camera crosses over the hill. You get a divine mission, etc etc etc, and the combat portion of the game begins.)

Yet, I don't really have that many enemies. I want the entire game to focus on the complexity and importance of the enemy types, but so far I only have a wendigo and a rip off of the needler from silent hill.

So, /x/, what would you like to see in this game? Can you give me any recommendations for your favrit spooks?

I would actually love help getting animations and backgrounds done. Yet, Ironically, I'm hesitant to get another artist to help me because they'd probably be better than me.

I want the look of the game to be cohesive and consistent. I'm afraid that it would either cost you your artistic and design freedom or cost me my vision for what I want the game to be. I don't want to have to bring the quality of an artist's work lower to match some idea I have about an animation or a background in my head, but I also don't want to sacrifice a piece of the world I'm creating.

Oh, sure. His face is a sun that grows brighter as his vapourwaves intensify, and his face is always visible from any angle, no matter where you're looking. Like Mickey Mouse's ears.

Also he can only speak in vapourwave.

Other than that he's actually kind of a cool guy and just likes to relax. I came up with an actual name for him, but I forgot what it was.

When he opens his mouth, out comes vapourwave. Like not any song in particular, but a song that kinda constructs itself to what he's saying and the way he's speaking, so usually it sounds fucked up but soothing. I guess it's kinda hard to describe, haha.

On a more serious note, I really like the expressive quality in your lines. The first one especially has a balance between looseness and solid strokes.

It's always great to see new faces here, and the thicc gohsts are only a plus. I figured by the kimono on your first two characters, the Yūrei was an obvious influence, too.

Actually, the Yūrei is rather fun to play around with given how the myth has both a good and bade side to it. Yūrei can act as guardians or even vengeful spirits based on how they entered the afterlife. Personally, I'm always drawn to the idea of a spirit that bridges between the hereafter and the living world, like a forlorn soul for some passerby to listen to its sad tale. That, and I think I have a 'thing' for girls with problems. Almost all of my spoopy gals seem to be one. Hm... fetish perhaps?

Anywho, no sweat with the NSFW stuff. Do you have tumblr or website that you post your work on? That's usually a good bypass from being banned for NSFW material.

And Onigiri has my blessings. I adore big spectral knockers, lol.

Thanks, Opuliz! That was a similar remark I got from my peers and the professor when I showed it in class. I still think me making ALL of my sounds can generate some silly side effects, almost taking away from the sinister factor, but my professor felt the extra 'playfulness' in some of the audio gives the film an additional layer. I can see both the pros and cons in that, lol.

And that's very kind of you to say with the storyboard/animatic comment. I do enjoy constructing scenes and laying them out since I'm prone to being organizational in general. It's something to keep in mind for future sake once I'm outta college.

I don't think I ever remarked about it the previous times you've posted (probably did but don't remember, lol,) but your past mentions of how much work and time you have to put into the little details for such active and dense compositions is so worth it for these amazing results.

It is a fucking shame /x/ is a blue board, but it's the only precaution the board has from preventing a spam of real gore threads. I hope it won't discourage you from posting more of your SFW work in the thread.

Nevertheless, I adore the excessive vulgarity of your subject matter. Reminds me a lot of the Crossed comics, but in a more imaginative and constructive way. As for your merging jpegs dilemma, I used this website to merge my past jpegs into a stacked PDF file: https://smallpdf.com/jpg-to-pdf

I think there's a limit to how many times you can use it in a single session, but it's a nifty tool for something that's online and free. I've also used Adobe Bridge to combine my images into a stacked group, in case you have the program on your computer.

Be back with more tomorrow. Doing some inktober because it's quick, fun, and good practice. This stuff is basically my first time drawing in ages. I'm a lot more confident in my lines and less chicken-scratchy, but it's still there.
First one isn't necessarily a monster, but it's a character (Bikini Bible-Chan) associated with guro. Made by a team of animators/artist (Mechafetus)that have been a big influence on my style/works/ and stuff in general.
Skimmed through a bit, and I'm impressed asusual. A lot of new talent, Bawble is back, Keeper keeping things on lock. Stay cool folks.

Pens make it where errors can't be fixed, but it forces me to be more considerate of my work. I'm a little bit more patient with my decisions. I also really like drawing on note cars and I feel pens work better for me at least in more confined spaces.

Haha, I love that analogy, especially when I have a special place in my heart for his illustrations in the "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" books. Only ever read a couple back in middle school, but Gammell's imagery for various stories really stuck to me. That root-like appearance in some of his creatures might be one the factors as to why I include it in mine.

Secondly, you're quite right in that respect. I only see very minor similarities between my style and Gammell's illustrations, mostly with the root-like appendages and straw-like hair, but I otherwise see a more caricature-like quality in his figures whereas mine are more... animu-inspired, lol. Contemporary inspiration!

That, and FromSoftware's art direction. Bloodborne left a strong visual influence on my style.

The tutorial section is basically just the character fulfilling his responsibilities at the orphanage.

I.E., going to chop wood teaches melee combat, Going to a dark basement to add fuel to furnace and indirectly learn about light sources, meeting with one of the orphanage Fathers who takes the character target shooting.

For any difficulty above "Timid," There aren't any prompts like "E Pickup Object," and I've actually already designed the control scheme on the SNES.

Even though it has keyboard/mouse controls,I've tried to keep the inputs minimalistic. I envisioned movement working on a D-Pad and 4 action buttons.

So, Mouse 1 slash, Mouse 2 shoot, Q equip/unequip light source, E Interact. (I also plan on including controller support)

Also, this next part isn't exactly related, but I'm planning on including a health system based on Matthew 18:9 that can harm and help the player simultaneously. After receiving 3 Hits, a player will lose a body part. Initially, the player will suffer negative symptoms, but when the mid-point happens, every symptom will have a silver lining. So, if the character loses his eye, his circle of vision will be slightly darker. Yet, when he later gets the revolver, his inaccuracy will be reduced, because he can better line up the sights.

So here's something mildly interesting: for my Concept of Fitness class, every student was to color in a mandala as an act of relaxation. Mind you, I thought it was too simple to just 'color' in your atypical mandalas. Additionally, we get 5+ points added to our final grade if we colored in a second one.

So... I decided to draw over my mandalas and create something entirely different from them. Haha, I intend to include this for the class's final project. Hopefully, she'll appreciate my creative twist on what's an atypical assignment.

I've got one more for the night!

Decided to finish a sketch I drew while riding the bus between campuses yesterday. The creature's a new antagonizing faction in my FaustFall comic. It's/they're called the Zealot(s) of Ziz. Basically, take angelic qualities, Baphomet qualities. and "horns-all-over-the-fucking-body" qualities, and you have this thing.
