the folklore base vampires were probably demon possessed corpses, and in this day and age, they're probably exceedingly rare -- more so than in history.

this is because of several factors:
>we have a 30% cremation rate
historically, cremation was illegal in most of Christendom.

>we have an almost 100% embalming rate
it's possible that this process destroys a corpse's usefulness to the vampire demon.

>we have a near 100% rate of using sealed underground burial vaults
compared to openable family crypts and shallow soil burials.

so, I think vampires may be essentially extinct in the western world. maybe in dirty ass 3rd world countries with no burial laws, or in places with high rates of unembalmed crypt burial, but not in the West...

Yeah, you know where I live (western europe) earth burial is still the most common. Cremation is rarely used, % wise.

As far as I can tell, "psychic vampires" are either people who participate in magical thinking with little basis in reality, or they're just annoying people who frustrate you and only make you feel like they've sucked the life out of you.
