I think that the universe is a simulation; but not in the way others have suggested. I don't think anybody necessarily knows we're in here. I think that the universe is a planetary simulation designed to test the physics of collisions. I think the people running this simulation might have absolutely no idea that there's anything they would consider as intelligent life down here. Fuck, they're probably out to coffee while they wait for it to finish. I mean, do you sit there and watch your loading bars progress when downloading a thing?

This has some interesting caveats; there's probably a way to giltch the system, or else just otherwise figure out how to utilize the calculation power of the universal simulation machine. Building a calculator of transistors has got to be the *worst* solution to this problem, as its tantamount to building a redstone binary machine while playing minecraft on a virtual user interface. That's the wrong way to go about it entirely.

I predict that the universe itself is a non-deterministic Turing machine, and what we experience as daily events are in fact analogue data streams that can be coherently analyzed, or considered as purely random; it doesn't matter to the simulation one way or the other. Because I don't think we were necessarily a part of the plan. It's more like... we just kind of evolved by freak fucking chance, as our scientific models suggest, and we're stuck in this holographic planetary simulation because there's actually no outside from our perspective.

But, knowing that it is a simulation, one can begin to learn its code, and attempt to program scenarios to experience from within.

If you want a plausible "Grand Unified Conspiracy Theory," look into Sibel Edmonds' story, and her theory about "Operation Gladio B." Edmonds was an FBI translator after 9/11, hired to translate the massive back-log of foreign-language intercepts ... she discovered evidence of Turkish spies within the FBI, tried to blow the whistle to Congress, and was hit with the most gag-orders of any person in U.S. history.

The short(ish) version: Operation Gladio was a (historically documented) "false flag" terror network established by NATO among various intelligence services and right-wing militias, supposedly to act as a "stay-behind" force in the event of a Soviet invasion of Europe. When the Soviets never invaded, the Gladio operatives turned to committing terrorist attacks that would be blamed on the Russians.

As the Cold War ended and the Soviet Union started to fall, Gladio operation switched to "Plan B," which involved using radical Islamists in place of right-wing militias.

Then again perhaps organic life is much more common in this simulation than I suspect. And perhaps the key to gaining the awareness of the "programmers" is to understand what they would consider intelligent from their perspective. From our perspective, things like love, selflessness involve are choices that carry emotional weight, the risk of sacrifice, changing one's entire mindset to conform to society's will.

I mean, any programmers outside of the simulation wouldn't necessarily be paragons of evil or justice; just regular folks who noticed that their universe simulator was doing something weird.

For instance let's say everyone decides to sit in a circle in a room of mirrors, and stare deeply into each others' eyes. I don't know WHERE that is on the morality scale. But it sure would make some blips happen on whosever's monitor we may or may not be on.

I had a similar idea a long time ago that was the same thing but not a simulation.

Basically that a God created this universe on a whim to see what would happen if he made a universe and injected a massive amount of random energy explosions. He got bored of his project after a while and then left, having no idea that his creation would by pure chance result in life. So while there is a God, he doesn't even know we exist let alone care and so we might as well be on our own.

The internet is being subverted into a population control system.

First off, you have the end of privacy. Under the guise of defending against terrorism/child porn/internet trolls, government will collect all data on every login, which will be used to correct any instances of wrongthink. Social media already normalises using your real identity online, and future generations will overwhelmingly see this as the default/only option. We already have the backdoors used by intelligence services, but that's a legally grey area and won't be necessary once 'backdoors' become an accepted norm.

Secondly, you have blanket surveillance. Smartphones were a big step in this direction, but The Internet of Things™ will be the endgame, with the entire world turned into one giant mesh of sensors, all linked up and reporting back to some equivalent of GCHQ - with the knowledge and consent of an apathetic public. Even if you don't own any devices (which will be increasingly impossible) you'll be logged by everybody else's collection of security cameras, smart lights and wearables. But almost everybody will 'choose' to have their exact position tracked 24/7 for convenience and as a social norm.

Finally, you have the control system. Once this system is in place, with pattern-matching software sniffing through collected data to find wrongthink, your views will be subtly influenced towards acceptability. It's already been shown that you can sway a person's political stance by feeding them certain news stories. With each person's media consumption entirely 'curated' by algorithms (think Google Now), this will become ever more effective. Hardly surprising given that media is our link to the outside world. Of course, there'll always be the option of sending police in to detain serious offenders, but these will be rare outliers.

Voila. Most effective population control system in history, and we're already 90% of the way there.
