Welcome to the /x/ Original Content thread. This thread is dedicated sharing all mediums of art that pertain to /x/. We want all sorts of artist to share their work to create an artistic community and a haven for new and original content. Please feel free to contribute! Just remember to keep it /x/ related.

Any material you have to contribute is accepted here, especially /x/-tan art. All requests are accepted as long as they pertain to /x/ and for the most part are SFW.

Keep in mind that while this place isn't intended to be a hugbox, constructive criticism is encouraged rather than simply stating that you think the art sucks. Instead, explain what you think is wrong and suggest ways that the artist can improve.

I like this picture. I kept pondering at it for a while.

The father, the biggest figure in the portrait, looks at you with a straight face. He has a small child probably more cherished than what i presume to be the mother and the other child. Also take note that both the father and the smallest child has the closest 'normal' face.

Now onto the mother, she is behind the father, not looking at him but instead, she is looking at the other child. She is not like the father and the child.

Finally, look at the other child, at the very corner. He is bigger than the child and yet slimmer, more frail. His face seems to be deformed/melting. He is shunned, not even close to the father/child. But the most important aspect about him is the lines around him; so chaotic and random compared to the other lines indicating that there IS something wrong with him.

All in all, I think the mother and the father had this deformed child at first and then attempted to have another normal child which quickly became the father's favorite. This might sparked a dispute over the married couple.

What do you think? Am i overthinking it?probably am but what the hell.

Hello folks!

I've been thoroughly busy these past few weeks on a recent short film for my digital arts course. The idea for this second project was to create a live-action (I went with animation since the advanced course has flexibility) and create a theme around a certain word or words. My words were "stratum" and "streak." I decide to loosely relate the words' meaning in my piece but mainly focused on continuing to tell a narrative in relation to my comic FaustFall.

The animations themselves aren't very impressive, just 5 to 6 layers of puppet warped layers of a single illustration. I also recorded my audio on a smartphone (I was... experimenting, lol), so I do apologize if the orientation sounds off.

Despite it's imperfections, it got good reception during the critique today, so I'm glad it's not a complete mess, lol!

Nevertheless, enjoy to anyone who's interested!

Some time ago I posted the beginnings of a wand I was crafting. Since the relevant thread rarely ever creeps up I figured I'd use this one to update /x/ on its progress since it's nearly completed at this point. To show how far its come from its humble origin I've included one of the first photographs I took of it while it was being held together by a crafting dowel.

While the head of the wand will be a traditional quartz stone in the center will sit a piece of onyx as will another onyx stone sit in the "left hand" of the athame, and the "blade" of the athame will be an obsidian arrowhead.

While I've used a natural bonding compound to bind the pieces together inside the spine of the wand and athame is a piece of red oak both to stabilize them and to add yet another earthly connection. Finally I will use leather strips to wrap them both decoratively and to secure the quartz and obsidian.

Also pictured is homemade ink, a bottle of holy water from a cathedral dedicated to the archangel Mikha'il, and two vials of holy water from my city's largest churches.

While I could assemble the entire thing right now if I wished I am waiting for the right calendar date to do so, and I also wanted to collect additional vials of holy water from some of the other great places of worship in my city as we have one of the highest church-per-capita rates in North America. These vials will be combined with a final ingredient and used to ritually wash the wand, athame and stones before it is fully assembled.
>>
>>18135017
That's actually pretty cool.

>highest church-per-capita rates in North America

>>
>>18135017
> we have one of the highest church-per-capita rates in North America

You should look up "seven churches water". Its a hoodoo/santeria/voodoo thing, but it may be of interest to you since you are realistically capable of making it regularly.

>>18133460

In addition to the multitude of Catholic churches you can find Greek Orthodox, Syrian Orthodox, Baptist, Anglican, Presbyterian, Seventh Day Adventist, Jehovah Witness, Mormon and even an African denomination I can't remember the name of. There are several non-denominational Christian churches, some pagan churches, and even a mosque. There is, however, no synagogue and the nearest one is about as far to the Northwest as Newport is to the South.

Many of the Catholic parishes are beginning to coalesce as their parishioners are literally dying off and several of the churches are being turned into museums and cultural centers, but even still you can go to any area of the city and find a Christian church of some kind within a few blocks. I live near the edges of the city and there's still at least 4 churches I know of within a kilometer of my location.

An interesting read indeed, amusingly I could easily create a 20+ water if I went to every church of every denomination.

I've been thoroughly busy with my art classes as of late (and my filler classes on a lesser note), but I've been working on another short film. I figured I could share one of the images I'll be using in it.

Take a life drawing class, where you have a live model posing to work with. It helps tremendously, especially if you have a good teacher. Any problems I had with anatomy were fixed with one class (still have issues with hands and feet, but I'm a hell of a lot better.)
>>
>>18162528
You can do this >>18163244 and/or you can also find art and anatomy tutorials on the web. Some of them are not as good or accurate as others, though, so be discriminating. Even looking up medical illustrations like the skeletal and muscular systems can give you a good idea of how to draw better.

>>18164449

I hear ya there. That was my strategy when I was working on my last comic during the summer. It's just incredibly tedious to do a burst of work in one night. Ironic, since I was at the studio from 5 pm till 10 pm today and still need to ink another image before bed. Looks like I'll be going to bed late tonight!
>>
>>18164460
What are you working on broski, got a teaser? I'd love to start doing ero guro style comics. Not enough time or motivation.
>>
>>18164478

Well, the comic is an ongoing series that I hope to compile into 8 or 10 issues. Likely the first half of a two-part series of books. 'Course, that's the pipeline dream generalization, lol.

I already uploaded the first issue on my DA here: http://keepergryphonstone.deviantart.com/gallery/59548532/Comic-Faust-Fall-Book-1-The-Countrymen

The second issue is just kinda sitting. I'm waiting for my filler classes to finish so I can devote more attention to it when I have more free time. Realistically, I hope to finish one new book per semester, so by the time of my graduation I have at least 5 issues done. Then... LIFE!

Otherwise, I'm currently working on another short film for my digital art class. Nothing fancy, just gonna use some creative cropping and some simple keyframe animations in Adobe Premiere to fabricate this sensory cinematic. No dialog, just visuals and audio (that I made myself, lol.) The professor says we can go abstract, so I'm just gonna make an abstract fight scene. It's bound to make some people say, "What the fuck?"

I already posted some examples last night too: >>18160610

Sorry, I kinda go long-winded there. Back to inking!

You're lucky you're in /x/ and newfags aren't told to get the fuck out.

Way back when, whenever a newfag asked a question we just told them to lurk moar.

But anyways. You have to understand every board on this site has a different sort of culture. A fuck ton of time ago "tans" were created and it became a fad to have a mascot qt grill for each board. You could find /a/-tan, /b/-tan, /x/-tan, /v/-tan and so on. There's even weird lewd content making relationships between board-tans, reflecting the relationship between each board's users. Like, for example, /v/ has a tsundere relationship with /a/, so they're mostly drawn together being lewd.

That's pretty much it.

I'll start on the first portion tonight (got to study for an exam too, whoo!) And yeah, I'll be pulling an all-nighter tomorrow. Nothing new for me. I've been doing last minute assignments for over 3 years in college now, lol.

>>18172420

Aw fuck man, I've missed your beautifully placed hatching lines. Your clean use of line art and shadows always impresses me. Keep at it! (The dull blues are especially somber and moody with your anorexic fella there.)

>>18172611

As someone who's studying in studio art (ie illustration/comics), I obtained a lot of my drawing skill from classes and a balance between self-teaching and teachers/professors teaching me the formals. I like to think I have an innate skill for drawing since I've been drawing as far back as 4-years-old, but who can say. However, I think I got much better once I started taking college art classes since they forced me to find a common theme/subject matter in my work. Not to say an art school suddenly makes you better just from taking a class. I always try to apply myself in my classes, and sometimes that means putting more pressure on myself than the professor asks for. (Sometimes, lol. I'm pretty lenient on painting this semester. Not really my forte.)

That's one thing I recommend to people who want to improve as an artist: find an idea or concept that really inspires/engages you and let that fuel your drawing practices. For me, I really love drawing my characters and their worlds since I seek to tell stories with my drawings. A lot of what I draw is normally related to those ideas in some shape or form.

Of course, drawing a variety of things is equally important, but I find myself drawing more frequently when it's related to an idea that interests me.

>>18172894

Nice variety of lines! I'm a sucker for B&W images (Geez, I wonder why), so I think your version of /x/-tan is thoughtfully designed, especially when you're limiting yourself to just line and a black fill.
>>
>>18172782

I actually know a photo professor who's particularly critical with my peers. He once questioned the quality and genuineness of my work in my Theory and Practice course (technical and philosophical discussions about art and art-making.) Man... that was some rough critiques, lol. I gotta say, though, his harsh criticism helped me pinpoint a lot of issues in my work and even helped me completely revise a weaker video piece into a... decent one, haha. Our critical professors mean well though, but I do hear stories about other students breaking down in tears or getting pissed at them. Everyone reacts differently though.

>>18172798

I really should try this technique more often. It usually works better when your drawing surface is raised and not flat (I usually work raised though). I'm just so prone to using my hand than my wrist. Maybe I should try it again when I draw next time.

Anywho~!

I think it has the nice beginnings of something particularly spoopy - in a classical sense, too. Kinda reminds me of Mighty Max, with the post-modern kid entering into a scary medieval castle, likely filled with all kinds of ghouls and goblins.

I feel you should finish it. It's an overall well-unified composition, and you're obviously putting a lot of effort in rendering the little details in the character's clothing folds and the details in the architecture. It'd be a shame to leave it unfinished now.

Your puppet is coming along fantastically, Optiluiz. I especially like the fact you showed you and your team involved in the crafting process, really shows the enjoyment of working as a team on an artistic project.

On that note, I finished my third short film and uploaded it to Vimeo today. Sadly, my peers before me took up most of the critique, so my presentation's been slated for next Tuesday. (Not the first time!)

I mentioned this beforehand, but the third project was meant to be sensory film with only visual and audio elements to convey an experience/narrative that isn't verbally explained to the viewer. As always, I made all the audio on my own, but I gotta say: it's kinda silly. I made ALL of the audio. Even the sound of the 'gore' and the 'door's, lol. I'm quite satisfied with it, despite the animations just being made from keyframes. Not bad for 10 hours of work.

Anywho, here's the link to my third short film: https://vimeo.com/184853155

For a no-budget stop-motion adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's Dagon. I posted an animatic earlier in the thread, you can check it out if you want.

Hey Keeper! Thanks for the kind words, and it's a lot of fun working in a group. I like to document this stuff in case there's an eventual behind-the-scenes thing. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated as I go along.

Also, I'm planning a few more horror projects until the end of the year, and can't wait to share them with /x/.

And I'd really like to see your project! Any chance we'll be getting that vimeo link anytime soon? And judging by your past work, your audio skills are still pretty good, so I think it's awesome that you managed to do it all by yourself.
>>
>>18181349

As one of the drawfags here, I won't belittle you for your difference in drawing skills, anon. Feel free to share whenever you feel ready or feel the desire to, but don't feel discouraged.

>>18181388

I'm glad to hear that, Opti. Working in groups is often seen as a hassle, even in creative endeavors, but I'm thrilled to see your group is one of the lucky ones to feel a unified enthusiasm for the work.

More horror, eh? Consider me on board, lol.

Actually, I posted a Vimeo link in my previous post, but 4chan doesn't seem to hotlink it unlike YT links. You might notice it now that I mentioned it though, lol.

"Pretty good" is definitely the best word to describe my audio skills atm. They're very loose, cheap, and relatively effective for a college course, but I don't think recording audio from a smartphone is optimal in a polished sense. Idk. Just not a fan of the audio always hugging to the left or right whenever I record. One experiment after another, I suppose. Haha.

It is fun recording ALL of my audio though. Kinda reminds me of my childhood antics whenever I acted out fight scenes.

>Still does it today

And fuckin' proud of it.

Could you invest in something like a miniature tape recorder?

Do they even sell those anymore? I'm out of touch. One foot in the digital world, the other stuck in the past.
>>
>>18182426

Posting at 8 am while eating breakfast before school to say, I could look into a digital one. Pretty sure the professor had one for rent at school, so I can always inquire him about it. Good suggestion/reminder, anon.

I've been doing that bud thanks, should have a shitload to drop in this next coming week when I get ahold of a scanner capable of a3 sized shit. Stay motivated drawfags.

Also Im in dire need of something to help my concentration, inb4 aderall or weed.

Help me out gaiz.
>>
>>18182746

One of the biggest pushes for my own concentration is the Bloodborne soundtrack. Mind you, the subject matter in that game resonates with the material I draw, but I do feel foreboding/ominous ambience really pushes me into that spoopy mindset.

Give it a try, anon~!

I will give it a try, swear Ive gotten adult onset ADHD since I started using 4chins haha
>>
>>18182746
>>18183001

Heh. The internet in general seems to have a distracting effect on lots of people. And no, you don't need any substances to help yourself concentrate, unless you find out you legitimately have ADHD, but then it might be better to get something prescribed by a doctor.

If you can, find a quiet room with a good desk or tablet to draw, if you're using traditional art. Try to stay away from the computer/mobile device. Keeper suggested music, which I've found helpful at some times, distracting at others, it all depends on the situation and individual. But planning out a playlist beforehand is a good idea, and in my case, at least, instrumental can be a little less distracting than vocal.

If music isn't your thing or you still find yourself agitated, take short breaks every once in a while, but try not to make them so long you lose interest in the project. Looking at an art book during this time may also help.

>>18183065
Yeah man its the net for sure, problem is I like to use a lot of ref photo's. Maybe I can just sketch everything out in pencil then lock my self away or go camping to get the ink work done, cross hatching and pointillism are killing me atm.
>>
>>18183104
Alternately, you could print off the pics you need, if there aren't that many, or save a bunch and then disconnect yourself from the internet or close all other programs except your image viewer.

Around 30-40 minutes.I'm still a novice, this is like my second pixel art I've ever done

Also anyone else doing Inktober this year?
>>
>>18186793

That's pretty good for 30-40 minutes. I feel the same whenever I'm puppetwarping a figure in Photoshop: it's quick process, but I feel very novice in what I warp.

>Also anyone else doing Inktober this year?

I think I've been doing Inktober for the past year, lol. So yes, I'll be doing Inktober.

Which btw, that's a nice use of line density and hatching. Assuming that's microfiber pen, I assume you used a variety of pen sizes, like .3-.7? I'm also assuming that's water color on the shirt. Or oil paint. Idk!

Either way, I love looking over your pen strokes and getting an idea of your drawing process. I'm a sucker for visuals that expose the artist's craftsmanship.

fuck I'm sorry that I've completely dropped off, it's just my life has made some rather unexpected turns recently. I've use to say how I had a bunch going on, but things have changed over the last couple of weeks. There's so much going on, but I'll still try my hardest to be present. Just scrolled through and I really like what I'm seeing. keep it up folks.

Pixel, you're the fine bloke who went and made these OC threads a thing on /x/, so I really can't hold it against you if life is detracting you from being active in them. I feel we have a steady-enough flow of fine people coming in and out of these threads that the only time they're truly dead is when we're moving onto a new thread.

In any case, I wish you the best in your life's current endeavors and ordeals. You're a nice guy and a fine artist, so don't feel down if you're not around as much. Life will eventually give you a break.

No problem, Pixel. I appreciate that greatly.

It's a nice nook in the wall to come to after a long day or when life is throwing curve balls at you, definitely. Here's hoping all works out for you, and you can have some proper peace again.

Here's a down payment, my good man. Now here's what I want:

Draw me a catgirl in a skimpy bikini battling an evil kraken whilst standing atop a great white shark that is wearing sunglasses. He has to wear them, of course, because the sun is, in fact, a giant flamming skull (also wearing sunglasses) and the catgirl has called upon her dragon spirit beast which is shooting flames at the kraken's pal, Cthulhubot, and also lightning bolts are flying off the dragon's wicked cool guitar as it plays a fearsome J-Rock tune to keep the squadron of zombie flying fish at bay.

Do you think you can handle that?

Thanks, mate!Yeah I'm using technical pens(Marvy Uchida and Faber Castell) with varying sizes but I mostly stick to 005 for very small and precise detials,0.1 is my default line size and 0.3 and 0.8 for larger and ticker lines. As for the shirt I used a marker, filed with water based ink(Zig Art and Graphic twin if you wanna look it up) which I actually rarely use since I color most of my stuff on Photoshop.
