Depends OP, what are you afraid of? What scares YOU the most?

Bumping, I want something genuinely scary too

And OP, it's not super scary but a movie that I watched recently that turned out to be pretty enjoyable was Creep. Should be on Netflix still

People here talk a lot about that Deborah Logan movie. Watched it recently and it was pretty mediocre.
>>
Audition was generally fucking scary too.
>>
The Decent. Creepy cave exploration
Hills Have Eyes. Redneck Horror
The Boy. Decently scary, great twist
The Conjuring
Insidious 1 and 2, 3 was just okay
The Shining
Stephen King's It
Bone Tomohawk I heard was really good
Southbound. Great indie horror
>>
Last Shift, on Netflix.

It was surprisingly good. I would have watched it a lot sooner, but the original cover art picture made it look like some seriously low grade makeup/fx's.

I loved BWP when I was a kid. Rewatching it recently, I found it a lot less scary than I did back then, but still love the characters, presentation, pacing, etc.

I would say now that the Blair Witch Project, to me, isn't so much a horror film as it is a drama about three people trapped in a horror film.

Anyone have recommendations?

Bone Tomahawk's a good one, does a left turn on you before you know it.
>>
Could somebody help me to ID a film?

All I remember were Aliens disguised as men in black and people trying to escape from them. One scene in particular had the people running away and the aliens following them across a bridge. When the aliens were shot they bled a white goo.

I remember watching it years ago when I was younger and it really freaked me out. I would like to watch it again even though it probably is terrible.

I know it's not a lot to go on but thanks for the help anyway.

Fuck, there was another movie I saw a while back. About two guys who break into these rich folks home and kill them. End up pushing the wife off a boat in the end to let her drown. Can't remember the fucking name.

It could just be that i'm really picky with horror movies but babadook wasn't that scary. It was a good artistic piece, not a good horror piece.

OK, so I downloaded the August Underground trilogy and skipped through them.

All I'll say is that "found footage" does it justice.

^not incredibly scary, but a fantastic sense of inevitable doom. The sense of anxiety, the retro soundtrack, the characters that don't do retarded shit, and the concept make it a good ass modern horror.
>>
Just curious, anyone in this thread ever see that indie film Goodnight Mommy? I think that's what it was called, I remember seeing trailers and being spooked the fuck out. I'm a little too spooked to look it up right now. But it came out semi-recently, and is about two young boys whose mother gets extensive face surgery, and she comes back...different. She stops talking, she's acting weird, and she has these bandages all over her face which completely obscure it. At one point in the trailer the boy says, "You're not my mommy" and she smacks him! Can anyone here tell me if this one was worth watching?

imo Last Shift is a solid horror flick (excluding the end/some predictable cheesy scares).

pros are the atmosphere for 90% of the film, some genuine shocks and original scares & i actually liked the lead for once

cons are the finale, several unresolved questions and for some reason the FX would get shitty at key points... 6/10, it was a good watch for the most part

So here's a few movies nobody ever mentions and I don't fucking know why

>Occult
Made by Shiraishi, same guy behind Noroi, worse in almost every way but still a cut above most other horror movies - the ending is incredible (I actually recommend watching only the last 35-40 minutes, then watching the whole thing)

>The Boot
Japanese psychological horror, one of the few decent examples of the genre. Great atmosphere and build-up, not spooky but harrowing.

>Across the River
Italian movie (it was shot about 45 miles away from my girlfriend's place, makes it all the scarier) - slow burner and almost without visual spooks, but that makes it all the better. Don't look up the English cover, it's one big fat ugly spoiler.

>I Can See You
The mumblecore entry, little psychedelic indie gem. Will make you more anxious than scared, but it's worth it, if only for the visuals. If you liked stuff like A Field In England, check out this one.

>Dark Was the Night
Monster movie, well done and somewhat nostalgic - it feels like an 80s movie properly done thirty years later. It'll probably move you more thann it'll scare you, but it's short and cool to watch.

>Hausu
Everybody needs some FUN FUN FUN, and the effects are honestly amazing.

>The Nightmare
Berate it all you want, but it's still the best movie about sleep paralysis ever made - and if you argue about it being a mashup of fiction and truth, you don't deserve to post about movies.

Other recs that should go without saying:
The Banshee Chapter
The Blair Witch Project
[REC]
28 Days Later (leaving out the ending, that is)
The Borderlands
Antichrist
and more but I can't be bothered
