Last thread anons suggested this and I have to say it's really good. A bit long but worth watching if you have the time.

Warning: Makes no fucking sense unless you know gook culture.

>>18114727

>>
>>18115108
I'm the one that posted it. Not sure what that anon is talking about. The movie was pretty easy to follow if you pay attention to it. Though I guess the ending has a bit of mindfuckery at the end but I didn't feel lost while I was watching it.
>>

Dude that creepy part with the pregnant women who had no arms or legs, like they were just creepy fuck doll/slaves.
>>
>>18114695
Watched this on Netflix recently. I'd say its a nightmarish, fever-dream with little to no plot. It's very surreal or dreamlike.

The story centers around a few Turkish cops that happen upon one spooky incident onto the next.

>>18114640
How is Bone Tomahawk? I've ben meaning to watch it. Western/Horror is a dying (if not dead) genre. Which is a shame, you can make things so much more horrifying by going further backwards in time, with less technological advances.

And, please, no
spoilers
. Unlike this asshole
>>18115382
>>
>>18115397
Its hardly a spoiler. But its a great horror film if you enjoy realism and old timey western horror, totally recommend it. Also if you haven't check out Dead Birds(2004) its also an old western type horror film.
"A group of Confederate soldiers hole up in an abandoned plantation after robbing a bank and find themselves at the mercy of supernatural forces. "
>>
>>18114640
Gotta say this movie was so slow starting and then just shot up to "HOLY FUCK THAT JUST HAPPENED" mode in like two scenes. One of the better horrors ive seen, really drags on but keeps your attention which is a rarity wth horrors for most these days.

A couple of good ones I've watched recently:

Green Room

Late Phases

The House of the Devil

The Canal

Lovely Molly
>>
I'm gonna suggest The VVitch.
Very creepy, atmos, slow burn type of art house [read hipster] type of horror. But refreshing in the sea of jumpscare horror that dominates the genre at the moment.

Im gonna check out The Wailing though. Sounds good.

Pontypool is a masterpiece, I put off watching it for so long and I regret it.
The book it's based on is fucking deranged and hardly related apart from a character sharing a name with the protagonist of the movie and "talking" zombies.

I don't know about you guys but I quite enjoyed V/H/S and V/H/S 2. Haven't seen Viral yet.
>>
>>18119162

Viral has the worst bullshit and adversely also has the best VHS segment in any of them. Parallel Monsters is a fucking masterpiece, so you can pretty much watch it only for that.
>>
What do you guys think of giallo? I finished City of the Living Dead, gonna go back and rewatch The Beyond and The Church. The latter's location is too good.
>>
>>18119198
Fulci is one of my favorite horror directors. The Beyond is so good. Carpenter's Prince of Darkness has a somewhat Italian horror vibe to it. If you liked The Beyond and City of the Living Dead you'd probably like it.

I haven't seen The Church but it always pops up when I'm looking for something to watch, I'll check it out next time I see it.
>>
>>18119213
I've just started diving into Italian horror, it's pretty fun so far since the gore has that "sleazy" look to it I adore.

>Carpenter's Prince of Darkness has a somewhat Italian horror vibe to it.

I've seen it twice and it's never clicked with me even though I love Carpenter's work, but I've never thought about Prince of Darkness as an American-made giallo film.

I've been trying to track down a somewhat more recent (2000) Italian horror film called The Darkness Beyond, by Ivan Zucco.
>>
>>18119229
Oh, and you definitely should check out The Church when you can. Michele Soavi made some amazing movies in his short career (Stage Fright: Aquarius and Dellamorte Dellamore), and The Church is his best work.

>>
>>18115397
I know you've had a couple replies to this and I'll add my voice to the masses telling you to watch it post haste! That movie was the most original horror I've seen in a while. Fucking fantastic.
>>
>>18118144
This! I thought that movie was a great idea and with an actual actors could be right there with more popular found footage movies. The one forensics guy talking about how he couldn't stand to touch his wife after seeing the tapes man he could not deliver that believably to save his life and it took me right out of it.
>>
>>18118613

>>
>>18119190
Wholeheartedly agree! The only redeeming thing about that piece of shit. I really did want to like it because I really either first two but fuck me did they do bad here
>>
>>18114695
I like it. It's just pure madness.
>>
>>18119162
am i the only one who thought V/H/S 2 was fucking terrible? like, the first one isn't great either but for some reason everyone i talk to says they think the second was much better. it makes no sense to me.
>>
>>18119551
The second one IS better. The first one was 2 boring, nauseating hours. The second one had two really good one parts. The zombies and the cult. Overall, 2 isn't great either, but it's definitely better.
>>
>>18119593
I don't really get it, did you find the zombie part funny or something? I was completely baffled by it.

The cult one is terrible as well. At a certain point in that vignette, the camera work almost entirely deviates from the found footage style. While it's technically still found footage at that point, the many cuts between multiple cameras and the placement of the shots create a really jarring shift in the cinematographic style, and it took me completely out of the film. Not to mention the really shitty CGI and bad lighting. Also the ending is just dumb.

With V/H/S 2, it seems like they tried to shift to a blend of horror and dark humor, but it really failed on both accounts which is why I guess I hate it more.
>>

>>
>>18116616
Hannibal the series sort of cherrypicks situations and characters from the Books, it's a very visual take on the story and Mads Mikkleson is fucking amazing as Lecter.
The Movies are all good except for Hannibal Rising with is more of a cash in and sort of fucks things up a bit.

Just watched this today after seeing the recommendation here. Easily one of the best horror films I have ever seen, maybe even one of the best ever made.

House of 100 Corpses - pretty fun and cheesy, great film though

Mum and Dad - gritty British horror about a depraved "family".

The Exorcism of Emily Rose - interesting look at a court case surrounding a real event

The Fourth Kind - Aliums, but its spooky and well researched.

The Wickerman (original) - Not really spooky but its got great pagan and occult elements

Cabin in the Woods - Great modern take on classic horror format, most people have probably seen this but its kind of a must.

tried to give you some variety

Check out some of John Carpenter's horror movies. The Thing is a flawless masterpiece and The Fog is an underrated gem.

Normally I wouldn't give a shit about a The Blair Witch Project sequel but it was directed by Adam Wingard and I love his films so I'll go see it sometime this month.
>>
>>18118613

Why are you excluding Wes Craven's New Nightmare? It's the third best film of the series.
>Scream (all except that one with Emma Roberts)
Scream 4 is better than Scream 3 t b h.

I wanted to add to my original list:

Not exactly horror, but a fun watch and a great movie all the same.
>>
>>18128516
It wasn't my fave. That's why. Lol
And as far the Scream movies, you're probably right. I haven't watched them in a while. I just know the movie and show is horrid.
>>
>>18128506
May is not like saw, sorry. It's more like American Mary. Another good movie!

Vile was an okay copy-paste of Saw

Just watched Creep and goddamn the chills.

The end was ruined for me sadly because I'd seen the webm somewhere on here before not knowing.

Would recommend.

What are some good slow burning horror movies? I just watched The Descent and The Borderlands today, I've got to admit that I liked the borderlands a bit more. Not that I don't like actiony horror movies, just looking for something a little more subtle.
>>
>>18121727
yeah it sucks ass
>>
>>18129657
Two really good slow burners would be Bone Tomahawk and Banshee Chapter. John Dies at The End is one of my faves but it's a bit goofy. Definitely some /x/ type shit going on though.

I have never before wanted to murder chavs, but this movie though...
>>
>>18129693

I just finished watching Banshee Chapter, dunno if I actually like it. I had to fiddle with the volume throughout the entire movie because the talking was so quit but the fucking sound effects are ear piercing. At least I know why it's called the Banshee chapter..
>>
>>18129970
Same here. Left me middle of the road opinion wise. Was way better stoned though

such an underrated film

>>
>>18127703
Yeah the alien voice sent chills up my spine.
Overall its not that scary but the concept stays with you for a while, I was looking out for owls for weeks.

>>18127969
I've actually not seen it but I have the day off today so sounds like a plan

>>18129749
Yeah, its fairly unheard of too, probably one of my davorite British films aside from "Dead Mans Shoes."

I watched "It Follows" last night, was enjoyable and the main character was a QT.
Didn't scare me and the ending left a lot to be desired but it was an interesting concept all together.
>>
>>18129929
It really has a sinister vibe, the sense of helplessness and the cruelty are palpable.

I live in a rough part of England and the walk home from my mates after watching that was unsettling, the streets felt different that night.

The trailer and a few reviews tell me it's an overly produced, jump-scare-filled found footage cash grab that can only cheapen one of my favorite scary movies. I can't find anyway to justify paying to go see it.
>>
>>18117851

This! Plus with a bit of weed you can close your eyes and imagine the Swedish chef playing the entire cast

I just saw the new move then, spoilered for spoilers, and also my own opinions.
In terms or spoopyness, pretty ok, a few jumpscares here and there but manages to rack up some good nerve-inducing moments, like when the main Chick has to crawl through a tiny hole, there's just one big problem with it, it does not expand on absolutely anything involving the lore, you do briefly see flashes of the blair witch, not enough to get a good look at her (unless the movie is bought and paused) but the whole point of the movie was that Heathers brother was going to see what happened to his sister, do we find out? Nope. Do we see her? Nope. Do we at least see her corpse or some of her friends corpses indicating they were at least in the same creepy place as the characters are now? Nope. No lore building, just breifly touching on the backstory of the blair witch for newcomers, but literally nothing at all added to the plot, nothing explained, i feel like it wanted to be like the first movie, with a lot of the spiralling insanity and also an incredibly abrupt ending in a very similar way to the first. Honestly though it's kind of hard to explain, but i guess i mean you could watch the first movie first but if you watched this movie without having watched the first, basically nothing is lost and you'd still understand everything.
Guess it was still spooky though, so like a 6/10 for me
>>
>>18130254
well shit forget about being on /x/, if you dont want to get spoiled dont read between the spoilers i guess.
>>
>>18128271
The Thing is probably my favorite film of all time.
>>
>>18129419

It's scary because everyone can relate to knowing someone like Josef.
>>
The Mooring- the acting is so good it's terrifying
The Strangers - one of the best slasher movies
Devils rejects - Surprising feels inbound
Cannibal Holocaust - arguably the best horror film ever
Antichrist - for all of you depraved fucks out there
The McPherson Tapes - Aliens and shiet
Dark Skies- more aliums
Irreversible - French people like good rape scenes
>>
>>18128271
It really baffles me how The Thing failed commercially and was reviled critically when it first came out. Did tastes turn to complete shit just for 1982?
>>
Absentia

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1610996/

one of the best horror movies i have ever seen.
>>
>>18130803

Wasn't it one of the goriest movies of its time though? I mean, now a days we look at it's effects and laugh, but remember that Texas Chainsaw Massacre had people vomiting after watching it.
>>
>>18131095
A bunch of movie reviews did say how gory it was. And I'm pretty sure either Carpenter or Bottin said they were able to get away with all the gore because it was all alien goop, not human stuff.

I guess it seems pretty tame for horror fans, because of splatter films, exploitation, and giallo film gore. But for sci-fi fans and general audiences, it's a pretty big step up, even when compared to Alien from 3 years previously.
>>
>>18130803
Believe it or not, people actually remembered Thing From Another World at the time. One of the main complaints was 'not muh Thing'
>>
>>18116395
Tried watching it. Couldn't make it more than 15 minutes in because of the embarrassingly shitty acting.
>>
>>18131228
Just how big was The Thing From Another World? To me it seems like another generic 50s sci-fi movie.
>>
>>18131314
And to mitigate my ignorance, what made The Thing From Another World stand out so? What made it so George Romero, John Carpenter, and Dan O'Bannon love it so? High production values and special effects for its time? Good acting? Though provoking themes?
>>
>>18130621
That sequel hook though.

Apparently we're getting a trilogy of Josef.

Probably going to be very divisive, but I quite enjoyed Cloverfield.

I know it's not traditional horror, but it's still a horrifying thought.

It was more about what you didn't see and didn't know than all the visuals of most movies.

Have yet to see 10 Cloverfield Lane.
>>
>>18114725
Watched it last night. It was pretty good, but bummed me out for a couple hours.

10 Cloverfield Lane was decent. They kept making the assumption that the disaster above was an alien invasion so I assumed it would be something different. Turns out it was an alien invasion.
>>
>>18116306
I went and watched it right after seeing this thread and this post

Holy shit

Bone Tomahawk was one fucked up movie. I won't spoil the scene you're referring to, but damn

I've been constipated for 3 weeks before, and I can somewhat relate to how that poor guy must have felt.

Taxidermia is good. Weird. After you watch it, read about the symbolism. Very interesting.
