Plus you have to conciser that due to the bottleneck-near extinction event in our species' ancient history, we were down to only a few thousand individual for the entire planet. All 7 odd billion of us alive today are descended from those few thousand. So, as a species we have very low genetic diversity.

It's part of the reason we're so prone to health issue compared to other animals, but it also explains why so many people can look identical.

I think the lad above had a good point: that historical bottleneck where it is suggested there might only have been a few thousand people on earth means that there's a pretty good chance of some kind of genetic similarity in people's faces over the years. There are only so many variations on ear, nose, eyes. As receiving the images of human beings becomes more common, the similarities are going to be noticed more often I guess?

Lots of magazines have those "separated at birth"things that point out how similar a lot of celebrities look.
