Hi
Some of you may remember, back around May, a poster had claimed to get in touch with the man known as E Zed; the guy who allegedly had encountered some strange creatures in the Ruby Valley mountain range, NV.
I was the poster named Geophysics, who ran some GIS data sets to narrow down the location of the mine in question and get, what appeared to be, a decent match.
Despite the research showing a strong fit for the location, OP never seemed to get back with any more info. On top of that I couldn't wait around too much waiting, as I had exams looming and got distracted.
Was there any more word on the expedition, or has it gone down in the archives of /x/ as a ruse cruise?
Posting pics and screencaps of the threads, as it might provde some entertaining reading for you lot who haven't seen it.

Original story
Monitorin' this bread.
(`・ω・´)
If you recall from E Zeds story, there are a few pointers of the location
> 30 miles South, as the crow flies, from Wells
> Slightly North of the road off Highway 93 that goes in to Ruby Valley... This appears to check out as road 229
In this area, between 20-40 miles (to account for error), two mines crop up:
- Polar Star Mine
- Echo Mine
Echo mine appears to be rather flat, and devoid of much vegetation. However, Polar Star mine seems to throw up some interesting data.
Im listening

Whilst the GIS data point for Polar Star Mine is located 250m east of the area that I wish to draw attention to, it could be possible that the mining site had multiple shafts in the area to obtain the ore when it was in operation.
I will next discuss Point 1
PS This data images are all from the thread back in May

Zooming in to Point 1, I notice what appears to be an unconformity in the image, which may possibly be a shack nestled between some trees.
At the second point it shows what appears to be a well; a dark spot/hole in the ground, yet it casts a shadow, indicating elevation from the ground.
Looking back to the previous image, you can see this is obviously at a higher elevation than the road, which is consistent with the story.

In E Zed's story, he stated that a ridge ran alongside the road, at an elevation of 100ft.
The topographic profile from the road to the top of the ridge shows a difference of 32m, or 104ft for you barbarians who have yet to adopt the metric system (that said, we use both interchangeably lol).

The final pieces of evidence I have for now are the road length and shape.
> "After the tree the road continued straight for about 200 yards, then hooked back before becoming 90 degrees"
It more or less fits.
If you look at the original picture, the curve in the path seems to exactly match E Zed's diagram - See the bottom left of E Zed's picture. The road dies off, but he did say it was an old path, barely visible, so he could have been essentially driving offroad up to this point.
I'll post a picture next without the annotations, for a clearer view of the path.

However:
I cannot see the "Canyon" he described, nor the 15ft rock. However, given the location of the rock on his map, it could well be obscured within the trees.

All the pics have been posted, here's on of the threads in question:

That's all I have for now chums, let's wait and see what we get

thats chewbacca bro
leave him alone!
:)
So what'd he encounter? That drawing looks like a Gorp, a giant ground sloth.
I remember reading this anon's story a year or two ago. Maybe even three. It was always fascinating and seemed rather genuine.
I would have to say it's my favorite story from the board, but I don't frequent too often.
I'm glad someone is resurrecting it!

Same, there are about 3 similar stories about what are clearly ground sloths, set in their prehistoric distributional ranges. I'm sure they're all written that way on purpose, but the suggestion of potential living fossils with hints of realism is always exciting.

Why do these redneck fucks always have to shoot at everything? It's probably dead and decayed last male of its kind and now they are all gone. Fucking shits.
So, you'd let the possibly carnivorous and angry beast of unknown origin maul you to death?
