Doesn't pic attached seem like the perfect place to watch horror movies?

Anyway- suggest movies you'd like to watch or ask for recommendations.

ALSO- please refrain from posting roll/get for list for movies. I don't expect you guys to follow this, but man, do they ruin a fucking movie thread with all the "rolling" and etc.. Just use a fucking randomizer from 1-100 or some shit, Jesus.

Personally, I've watched recently:

The Visit (2015) - solid 7.5- have not had a movie scare me like this in some time- maybe it's because my father had mental illness and related to what the kids were seeing. Group of kids meet their grandparents for the first time and plan to stay there for a week. They get exposed to symptoms of their mental illness and it gets progressively worse.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) - Pretty good for its time, not scary, but I was enthralled. 6.9/10. New organism found out- spreads by flower buds. Group of people find out how it's affecting people and they try their best to evade the body snatchers' influences.
>>
>>18034699
I've watched Across the River after the last rec thread, I'm not sure what to think about it. I like the atmosphere and all the buildup, but the ending seemingly cut everything short (like what happened in the abandoned village and why it was important that the main character was Italian) and it would be no different if the spooky parts were replaced with an attack of a man-eating bear or something, and if the old man was just a demented weirdo. Perhaps it flew over my head, and I'll have to watch it again.

Recently finished

They Look Like People (2015) - The build up seems kind of lame- not really a horror movie- more-so a psychological dramatic movie.

Thinking of watching Vertigo.

Anybody got some movies they want to share that are decent?
>>
I really recommend The Babadook. It was a genuinely creepy movie that can serve as a neat metaphor for mental illness. A bit of a slow start, but still fantastic.

Just watched Baskin, first half felt bizarre and pointless, second half was really fucking good though. I need more shit like this, films involving satanic blood orgies and shit like that, the crueller the better, but it needs to have some lovecraftian/satanic supernatural theme around it I don't get scared by pure gore like guinea pig shit that feels more like porn
>>

Good movie, do recommend.
>>
>>18038469

I agree 100%. However, I find myself enjoying psychological dramas very similarly to horror films. The dread in the back of your mind with both genres just drives the experience and I love it.
>>
>>18038127

you do this? I try to go into movies I want to watch with nothing to expect, sometimes only going off the recommendation of someone. and I was certainly glad I did the same practice for this movie.

The Krampus is great, and is worth a watch even if it's out of season. I loved the monster designs, the comfy snowy outdoors shots, and the practical effects. There's some CGI, but it's pretty sparse.

Surprisingly, the movie has no gore at all, and ends with a pretty solid moral of not BEING A LITTLE SHIT, so you can watch it with your family.

Do keep in mind there's like, two other Krampus movies out there, so make sure you get the Michael Dougherty one.

Watched recently:

Ice Cream Man (1995) - 2/10; I watched this when the Svengoolie block was on WCIU when I had no cable as a kid and now I found it. Jesus Christ I cannot believe my kid self got scared of this shit. Premise: some guy was sheltered and had to go through some crazy therapy until an adult or some shit. He looked up to his idol, the Ice Cream King and became Ice Cream Prince...serving eyeballs and innards with ice cream and tries to get away with murder and kids from the block investigate missing children cases.

Gozu (2003) - Build up is kind of a chore to go through, and uhh it was an abstract ride. Not necessarily horror- more like an art project with an awkward theme. Premise: Two brothers from the Yakuza are driving, and eventually get separated when one goes to a public diner for the bathroom and finds his brother gone from their car. He goes through an...odd adventure seeking out his brother.

>>18042086

Dead Mary (2007)

Low budget, but pretty damn good if you don't expect too much.

Evil Dead+ the paranoia angle of The Thing

I loved everything about it, but it might not be for everyone's taste. It's a slow first act with lots of character buildup.

I'm not sure if it's 'scary', but it's creepy.

I watched a movie in middleschool about the lost colony roanoake. the devil caused everything iirc, and he appeared like a normal human. im pretty sure it ends with everyone following him into the ocean.

thing is im not sure if the actual roanoke shit is flashbacks or if its like a modern roanoke or what, because I seem to recall a kid bouncing a basketball fairly early on. I've been looking for the movie for years. I THINK the word storm is in the title somewhere. Any help?

>>
I might have said this in previous threads, but I can't say enough about The Fourth Kind. Like, as far as the whole "found footage" thing goes, I think this does it the best.

Basically, the movie is presented like a "this is a true story being acted out by actors, and where the parts were caught on tape we will show the raw footage."

The acting parts are available pretty well done psychological horror thriller, and the found footage parts go into full-on high quality but lo-fi horror. VCR distortion, "just grainy enough to get the imagination flowing" effects, it's all pretty damn well done.

the babadook was good, but I wish they didn't show the 'monster' at all and just left it up to interpretation of madness.

I just watched it too, but i didn't understand if the monster is real or it's just the mother and child's imagination for the prolonged lack of sleep

I've gone back to radio horror from the old-old days because you can picture things your own way (plus it allows multitasking). OP's location would be good for listening to audio.

I've given up on most contemporary horror films. I'm at that point where (like a lot of anons here) I simply don't get scared of anything on screen anyway, and since graphic horror has pretty much reached the ceiling by now, I'd only watch movies to be entertained or amused rather than scared. To have a scared reaction nowadays, I believe you really have to do a bit of roleplaying, unless you're extremely jumpy or phobic by nature.

Occasionally I search for B-movies from 50s-70s and check those out. A little nostalgia, melodrama, overacting, low$ fx, and unintentional comedy, but at least there's no post CG work. You can simulate some edginess by considering what level of gore/sexual-innuendo was permissible at the time (eg, "The Brain that Wouldn't Die", "The Flesh Eaters"). I'm actually surprised they haven't remade some of the lowest-budget flicks yet, because the actual concepts weren't any worse than a lot of stuff today.

It's a mother and her daughter in the shadow in the background and out of focus. The mother is in the back, and the little girl is standing up in the cart, must've been moving around like a normal kid which is why it's blurry like that.

The first 2 were fine, but they seemed to get significantly worse as they went on. The Cult segment in VHS 2 was worth the whole movie, just like the final segment in /V/H/S/ 1 was, except VHS 1 still had some other good segments.

What's the best Fulci Movie?

I'd have to say it's somewhere in between The Beyond and City of the Living dead.
City was significantly better at being scary than I expected, especially from the ending and seemed to have a better atmosphere

The Beyond had individual scenes that hit harder than the best City had, but then you get stuff like the Tarantula scene that doesn't need to be there, or the scene where he gets into an elevator and you can see him try to reload his revolver via the barrel. But then again the ending, jesus.

I honestly think they both surpassed Suspira, which has amazing overall atmosphere, but hasn't aged well effects wise.

Recent films I've been entertained with and immersed in:

>The Conjuring 2
Rarely do sequels live up to their predecessors. They're usually rushed cash grabs; but the second film has heart and some genuine scares.

>Green Room
You want an intense thriller? Where the odds of survival are stacked against the protagonists? Where the imminent threat of death and brutal, physical violence awaits around every corner? I legitimately gasped at shocking moments...

>Lights Out
Adaptations of horror shorts can't be easy to pull off. Taking a few minutes and stretching them into a full-length feature calls for a lot of creativity. "Lights Out" doesn't over stay it's welcome - not too long or short. It is incredibly effective at story-telling and scares. Also, the unique monster was refreshing.

Now, an older throw-back...
>The Storm of the Century
I recently had the pleasure of re-watching this made-for-tv Stephen King adaptation. It has it all, murder, creepiness, fighting against the weather/elements, shared dreams, mystery, mind powers, etc. It's a little dated; but not terribly so. If you're a true x-phile and haven't seen it - I highly recommend that you remedy this.

the Beyond get 6.9 on IMDB.

lol. wtf.

people try to claim that, "oh, you just don't get it, anon. these italian horror movies are using 'dream logic'."

no.

they're just badly made. slapped together in a hurry from an outline instead of a script. badly dubbed and shot with tasteless, garish lighting.

how many of argento's movies are actually even watchable? maybe 3? seriously, if you didn't know it's an argento movie that you're supposed to love and admire, you'd shut that shit off midway through out of boredom.

fulci was a schlock director who made dozens of films that just capitalized on whatever themes were trendy at the moment; westerns, crime dramas, romance, military action, and finally horror. whatever the topic, he found a way to make a piece of trash out of it.

these movies are only entertaining in a mystery science theater sort of way.

stop acting like you're watching fucking kurosawa. seriously.
