It would probably help if you explained the situation more in depth. How do you know this was a spell? Could the entity have been trying to communicate with you? Could you sound out what the entity had spoken? Have you experienced any change that would give clues into what kind of spell it would be?

The entity being negative is almost a given, due to the fact that casting spells on the unwilling is almost always left hand path. So that's a very vague description.
