I'm on Long Island and in the distance for a while I've seen a huge dark cloud that has been flickering lightning literally non-stop, like every couple seconds. The clouds have been getting closer.

Also, during the day I could hear thunder even though it was sunny out.

Grr, I'm trying to find a specific Nat Geo pic of a house and tree just before lightning strikes. It clearly shows the arc reaching from the clouds but ALSO an arc reaching from the tree to join with the cloud arc.

This is the closest Google is giving me; not a pic but a diagram. The point is G2C or C2G usually involve lightning starting from both directions and meeting somewhere in-between.

I can confirm what OP said. For the past few days the weather has been super erratic. Sometimes we hear thunder but there would be clear skies. Then sometimes we would get lightning but no clouds in sight either. I know it most likely isn't paranormal related,but it's still fucking weird.
