Since this is the place to ask, I figure I will. What's the best way to start getting deep into the religions/occult, book wise? There's got to be some obscure books out there that are 'banned' or have stuff associated with them. I want books that go into any religion or mythology deeply.

To farther clarify, I'm not interested in 'Magic' because it's not useful in what I'm looking for. So any books on that subject or focusing on how to practice it is useless to me. Rather, I would like books that explain why they practiced it this way.
