trying to watch some good non shitty scary movies. The one in my gif was really shitty, just pretentious to the point it wasn't even scary.

pls help,

Lots and lots of list around these forums. Asked about once a day. Anyway my favorites are Texas chainsaw massacre and the thing. Most scary movies are too cheesy to be scary to me.
>>
Rent was pretty scary.

Begotten's first like 5 minutes are scary desu
>>
>>18006934
I was 12 years old when this was released and it scared the fuck out of me.I think this was the last fiction movie that really scared me to the core. I grew up watching corny horror movies of the 80's (Freddy, etc) and never found them the least bit scary but after watching this I was sure that being taken by aliens would be the worst thing that could possibly happen, and I was pretty sure it was possible (unlike Freddy).

God Killing Himself part is pure kino.
After that, it dives into edgy art project tier. It would've been much better as a short movie.

The Big Short is scarier than any of this shit
>>
Merige is great, but it's not horror.

>>18008805
Dunno about that - I mean, it's certainly graphic enough to make people uncomfortable (watched it with my girlfriend and she visibly squirmed which surprised me, as she didn't have any kind of reaction to stuff like Cannibal Holocaust which is a hell of a lot rawer) in places, but it's not creepy. Pinocchio 964 and Rubber Lover are far, far creepier.

As far as I'm concerned, a few movies I find actually scary:

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the part where Leatherface butchers the guys with mallets and hooks almost sent me into a shock)

I Can See You (the anxiety you feel throughout the whole experience is some heavy shit)

Toxic Love (though in a more "as humans, we're all thrown towards the void" way)

The Nightmare (yes, yes, it may not be a faithful representation of sleep paralysis but it successfully portrays it as some kind of memetic condition and that's scary)

Across the River (it's just subtle enought to be on the right side of terrifying)

Honorable mentions: Ju-on, Occult, Noroi, Cannibal Holocaust, Shutter

I'm trying to remember a trailer for a horror movie I saw in the past few months, but no amount of Google and YouTube searching is turning it up. Basically it was about this being that would appear and cause people to commit murders. I thought I remembered the repetition of the words "don't think it, don't say it" but apparently not because they turn up nothing in searches. Specifically I remember a girl with her hand over her mouth thinking that phrase over and over and then jumpscare he's across the room. I could have sworn it mentioned Insidious and Sinister which makes me even more confused because it should be easy to find if that's the case. Does this sound familiar to anyone at all?

Eh, first five minutes of Begotten were good, and then it got grainy as shit. Definitely held itself up on too high of a pedestal. Would recommend What We Do in the Shadows and the first two Alien movies. For classics, watch The Serpant and the Rainbow, or Possesion. Another classic is The Thing (the one with Kurt Russle in it). Modern horror I'd recommend is The Witch and Oculus. I don't get scared by horror movies. So, I don't have a movie that has scared me the most. I don't really have a favorite either. Feel free to ask me any more questions you may have.

Ive been trying to remember a horror movie that came out sometime between 2005 and 2009. All I can remember is tidbits from the trailer, I remember a part where a girl is putting pictures together to form a spooky face and another scene where she is at the top of a water tower or something. Also the monster in the movie is a big white creature with long arms and a big mouth. If any anons can recognize that it would be much appreciated.
>>
If you like genuine scary movies, no jumpscares and gore, watch "The Witch". Honestly I was really surprised as most movies that claim to be of the horror genre aren't scary at all. This one is all about the atmosphere, the story and the characters, it's brilliant, really, go watch it ! The best "scary" movies aren't necessarly the ones about ghosts or serial killers, but the ones that gives you a really uneasy feeling that stays for days.

The Strangers creeped the fuck out of me. Most horror moves don't bother me because 9 times out of 10 the characters are responsible for being fucked with

"I'm gonna disregard all the stuff these people are saying and go explore this (insert setting here) anyway. What's the worst that could happen
~Almost every main character in modern day horror

The reason The Strangers is so freaky to me is because everything they did to the couple was just because they felt like. No other reason. Simply: wrong place wrong time.

The thought of that happening to me in the middle of the night messed me up for a while.

Begotten was not supposed to scare people. That's like watching Romeo & Juliet expecting some CP.

You can get scared by mere movies only if you agree to get scared. So any film might potentially work if you play along with it seriously enough; a confrontational attitude, where you demand something of the film, or even being indifferent, is counterproductive.

You want to be truly scared, then go out into real-life and get into near-death experiences. Waterboarding for example. Have someone nail you into a coffin until the air starts to go bad. Even then, you may not be scared. At that point you might consider a career in the armed forces or the clergy, what the hell.

A good under rated movie.
Session 9
I think its a perfect movie for /x/

It's about a crew of workers hired to remove asbestos from an abandoned Mental hospital. Its a nice mixture of eerieness and suspense. Eventually shit stsrtd happening had they start to go missing. Nice little mystery in it too.

So.. I enjoy my share if horrors, and my suggestion is in no way the scariest... and it could be my personal unease with the creatures... but look up Dead Birds. Avoid trailers or google images, go into it blindly for the best effect.

You're a moron.

The Witch is an incredible movie. Its more about suggestion/implication rather than "in-your-face" horror. What I really liked about it also was the accuracy it achieved in conveying what life was like for colonial settlers in 1630's British America. I also like how seriously it tackled it tackled its subject matter.
>>
OP try Willow Creek.
>>
Was about 3 (1995). I don't recall the name of the movies , only brief memory of them.
>small creatures with sharp teeth eating almost everything, cars, house
>there's a scene where they are hunting for eggs, buf found plenty of those creatures instead

Next one, when I was 5.
>the vision of the creatures that can only see in abstract colours
>when its time to hunt human, it can see figure of men
>they try to shoot this creature but failed
>all victims were hanged upside down with chains on their ankles, naked and bloody

I wish I knew the movies' name.

La terza madre of Dario Argento scared me a lot.

Do not bring us to the evil is a very, very, VERY spooky film.

Marebito is Pretty disturbing.

Also the sleepaway Camp saga is good.

If anyone else is looking for something similar, Perfect Blue (1997) is the basis for Black Swan. Anime, no less, but still suspenseful in the same vein as the rest of the movies on this list.

>Under the Skin
I honestly enjoyed this movie. Unsettling is the best way I've described it to my friends, but I feel that barely scratches the surface of the movie's presentation. Personally, I feel like this movie is a visual analogue of some ambient music - minimal progression, unsettling, and, most of all, atmospheric. I would definitely recommend this movie to someone who is looking for something quite a bit different than most movie-going experiences -- and definitely to someone who enjoys ambient/drone music.

Oh my god, this movie was great. Would definitely recommend- specifically to any one with loved ones with mental illness. But you may enjoy it regardless. Watch it without any expectations- or at least try.

The thing is, and this is somewhat of a spoiler- I have a history with my father facing some mental illness. This added to the fear factor. This movie won't affect you much if you're oblivious to that experience- especially as a child.

I'm gonna be the outlier and say this was a good 8/10. Not truly truly scary though there's definitely some disturbing feels throughout the movie. Glad I watched it tonight.

>that poor quality film or camera shit

>The film was shot using a 16mm Arriflex camera on black and white reversal film. While filming, Merhige would experiment with the film reel to give it an old, withered look. This included running the unshot negative through sandpaper in order to scratch it up before shooting. Still unsatisfied with the overall effect, Merhige decided to use an optical printer but was unable to find one within the film's budget. He then constructed one himself using old, spare parts that he acquired from camera stores and special effects houses.
