Not quite. First of all, there is no galactic central sun, the center of our galaxy is a black hole. Well, stars and black holes aren't really what we think they are, but that doesn't matter. The trigger for "the event" is coming from our own sun, which is revving up for the big kick as we speak.

Now, there are two major interpretations on how it will go down. The negatively oriented parties think the Earth will be hit by a massive disaster that wipes out all life on the surface. Only those in the underground shelters will survive.

The positive interpretation is what we have above. Some believe that time itself splits into two continuums here, the bad guys get the mayhem, while the good guys go the easy way.

Neither is exactly correct, while both have a clue.

What will happen is that a massive coronal emission from our sun is going to scorch the surface of the physical world. Earth will become like Venus is today. Already the Mayans predicted this hundreds of years ago, writing of a "painless death" from the sun.

There's no need to be alarmed though.

There are many forms and layers to life. At this moment, many peope have what we could crudely summarize as a "spirit body", in addition to the physical one. Not really, but whatever. When the sunburst hits the planet, we will simply shift modes to live through the secondary body, while the physical one turns to dust. It's like upgrading your PC parts. The OS and files stored on your HD aren't going to go anywhere. The difference will be so minimal that at first most people won't even realize something has changed about them.

Well, that doesn't happen for everybody. If you've led a life worrying about nothing but debt, cheating on your wife, drinking beer and watching TV, you'll die. For reals. You will then reincarnate, as usual, on another planet with Earth-like conditions, where you will once again attempt answer the profound questions of, who are we and what are we really here for?
