I don't understand Faustian Bargains. If they believe in what they're doing and then trade their soul it just seems pretty short sighted. It'd be like having a really good afternoon if you had to spend the next ten quadrillion years eating glass. Why would anyone go for that even in fiction?
It's the human ego, when we make those kind of deals we don't actually believe that we will have to go through with it, because we think we can outsmart the opposing entity.
