Zozo is supposed to be a malevolent spirit that visits Ouija players. Most stories start out with odd noises and feelings of unease, followed by notable behavior of the board and/or planchet, including a bunch of accurate, secret information about the players alongside terrifying predictions, finally culminating in the planchet repeatededly zooming back and forth from Z to O : Z - O - Z - O - Z - O - Z - O - Z - O - . Sometimes spoopy, poltergeist-like activity is reported around the players' setting, including loud noises and even objects moving on their own.

In keeping with most Ouija stories, oftentimes Zozo is banished by following proper protocol concerning the ending of a Ouija conversation. However, in stories where players fail to follow this protocol Zozo maybe continue to haunt them in a fashion that is especially malicious.
