Yeah, spinning fluids with different viscosities and temperatures can create polygons like that. You can't see it through the haze, but there are six vortexes at each corner, and then the "sides" are just connecting each vortex. You can also have different numbered polygons, five, seven, etc.

You can literally replicated this phenomenon with water in a bucket.
