Hey guys, I'm looking to buy some of Crowley's books, but I don't know which ones are the best/which version I should buy. Advice and discussion appreciated.
>>
Here's the definitive list:

The definitive book by Crowley
>Magick without tears
If you're into tarot
>Book of Thoth (the deck counts as part of the book)

Well, I started the thread cause I couldn't find the right edition of magick in theory and practice, and I knew there was another highly recommended book that I need to buy but I don't remember which one.

Why Crowley?
That's awfully late in the game.
Are you looking for entertainment or source material, and if so, what is your objective?
>>
>>17961619
I don't quite have a reason as to why I desire to read Crowley's works, to learn I suppose, to take from them what I can.
I'm basically looking on amazon and there are like 5 different versions of each book and I'm very confused as to which is the most complete and accurate version to buy. I also want hardcover so I can feel good about putting them on my bookshelf.

>>
>>17961425
It's Magick without tears, it's "better" as a source than Magick in theory and practice
>>
>>17961766
Thanks.
Now can someone tell me the difference between these?

Other than the obvious hardcover vs paperback? None. And unless you want to be a tryhard and have it lying on a shelf somewhere, it's nothing special, and can be downloaded for free, legally. It's not even the good stuff. I mean, nothing published to the general public is. Ask for a link to the MEGA to get to the Yorke microfilms, that's where the fun begins. I'd post it, but I'm on my phone so I don't have the link.
>>
>>17961752
What's this mate?
>>
>>17962081
Some sort of viking runes or something, I forgot exactly where it's from
>>
>>17961944
Well, the books have different titles, cover art, and page length.
And I do want to put them on a shelf, I mostly prefer hardcover because I'm hard on books though
>>
>>17962100
They aren't really conversation pieces. Those who don't know will regard you a satanist devil-worshiper, and those who know will be meh.
But if you like harcovers, go for it.
>>
>>17961619
>That's awfully late in the game.

kek
>>
>>17962289
Well it is, he's one of the last great occultists. The only influencial occultist in the later half of the 20th century I can think of is Mike Ford. Crowley defined occultism of the 20th century. So yeah, it is late in the game, seeing that there is at least 400 yearsof occultism before that.
>>
>>17962365
>The only influencial occultist in the later half of the 20th century I can think of is Mike Ford.

Who the fuck is Mike Ford?

>So yeah, it is late in the game, seeing that there is at least 400 yearsof occultism before that.

What a weird sense of time, you have.
>>
>>17962417
>Mike Ford
Low rent "satanic" Luciferian, runs Order of Phosphorus, kluged Azoetia, maybe more, into his manuals.

>>
>>17962564
>Low rent "satanic" Luciferian,

K, thanks. I may have heard the name, but didn't know why he was supposed to be all that.
>>
I mentioned Ford just because he and LaVey made edginess popular, and since Ford is a more profilic author than LaVey, I deemed him influencial. But yeah, that's about it.
>>
>>17962706
Honestly Aquino's more influential than Ford.
>>
>>17962725
Maybe I mixed up the two Mikes. Who knows. Wasn't Acquino in the Church of Satan? And Ford in ONA?
>>
>>17962751
Aquino was in Church of Satan.
Ford claims to be a former O9A practitioner, but given the timeframes and how solitary much of O9A material is, it'd be hard to verify that claim outside of direct acknowledgement from Long or his inheritors.

I see a number of folks who practice O9A saying that Ford was in no way a member, but frankly given the nonlineal nature of the group, anybody could claim association or lack thereof with zero oversight.

What are you talking about?
>>
>>17962986

Can you be more specific?
>>
My vibrator went on by it self.... and there were no batteries! plz explain.
>>
>>17962996
No.
>>
>>17963027
I didn't say that...
>>17962996
You said he had a weird sense of time... He said he didn't think 20th century occultists were influential and that it peaked in the 300 years or so before that point. My question is; how does that make his perception of time weird?
>>
>>17963001
It's posessed by the cock of death.
>>
>>17963876
>My question is; how does that make his perception of time weird?

Well, he's talking about a trad that extends back around 5,000 years, not 300, and, if he really knew his shit, he'd know that time, especially in this context, is meaningless.

That 20th c occultists were not influential is just stupid.
>>
>>17966081
Why don't you contribute then instead of being an asshole?
>>
>>17966081
He also said there is "at least 400 years" I mis-quoted.

Now I see this really huge list of many different books and topics, but have no idea where to start. Could someone suggest me a good read? Im into occult and philosophy, a mixture of boths instructive and entertaining is ok, I like instructive more. Thanks in advance

Probably the Philosophy folder under A.'.A.'., poke around if you like. Grimoires for operations and old texts. Yorke Microfilms are under Crowley in the A.'.A.'. folder.

Okay, to clarify the shitstorm I brought up with saying 400 years, yeah, I meant it as 400 years of written and publicly availible sources like Dee and Kelley. Never meant to say that twentieth century isn't influential, since Crowley is a 20th century occultist.
>>
>>17966219
>I meant it as 400 years of written and publicly availible sources like Dee and Kelley.

Share what? You want me to go and steal Apes journals and scan them for you? Your faggot ass was spoonfed for two fucking days, go kill yourself, or go read shit from the MEGA
>>
>>17967283
In the mega? Yes.

>>17967273
No but my point is the question's largely been covered unless you can link me to some materials that aren't represented in the library (some fiction, poetry, etc.).

>>17967286
What's meant is that Dee and Kelley's materials were not made public for a long damn time, comparatively, we're still missing some shit. IIRC some of the papers were used to line the baking of meat pies.

>>17967313
You'd probably only find 2-4 of the 11 notebooks useful in any capacity.
>>
>>17967356
>You'd probably only find 2-4 of the 11 notebooks useful in any capacity.
I know, we talked about it last month, I think, and how your local OTO? fag actually tried stealing them
>>
>>17967382
Succeeded. Ten pages or so on Merkavah, the Tree, interpretations of Malkut set as a jewel on the throne of Binah in using that configuration, commentary on the Dark Night of the Soul in relation to Keph-Ra.
>>
>>17967392
Hey thoth, what languages can you read?

Sanskrit? Greek? Latin? French? Arabic?

I'm trying to decide on a good language to learn for occult work.
>>
>>17967428
Like, with proficiency? None. Got a minor in linguistics, I spent time on language features across many, semantics, semiotics, etc., rather than spending time learning to speak and read.

Of the five you list?
Depends on what you want, desu...
Greek/Latin depending on interest and timeframe.
Sanskrit (but you can PROBABLY get by and find perfectly accurate materials in Devanagari Hindi).
Arabic.

French only if you're interested in the blossoming Rosicrucian thought out through Freemasonry and/or Levi.
>>
>>17967447
Cools. Was thinking Greek because I also like philosophy and want to read Plato and Aristotle in their native language. Sanskrit is also a thought.

No Hebrew for me right now, as qabalah is not something I wanna delve into too deeply atm.
>>
>>17967463
>Was thinking Greek because I also like philosophy and want to read Plato and Aristotle in their native language.

You do know the works of Plato and Aristotle were written in Classical Greek, way different than modern Greek, right?
>>
>>17967481
Yes, I do. I meant to imply classical, as in said read, not speak.
>>
>>17967522
Well, good luck finding tutors/resources.

I think we have all, or nearly all, of the material known to us. Of course there could be more.

Anyways, I heard this book speaks of the magical meanings of certain numbers, and that it might mention the significance and meaning of repeating digits?? Anyone know about this??
