910 here, used to live near Greenville. Pactolus lights are an urban legend, probably some old guy shining lights at teenagers looking to see if they're real. Wilmington is full of old abandoned buildings, but the mountains out west are a fucked up area. Those woods aren't ours. There's plenty of spooky shit out here on the coast, but you'll be sifting through tourist attractions, urban legends, and restricted property (assuming you're committed) just to have a shot at getting somewhere. But if you can get out towards the mountains, Mt. Airy or Valle Crucis, you have a good shot at seeing some shit. Again, those woods can be dangerous; don'y go alone and don't go unprepared.

There's a place I heard of called Payne road. supposedly a man killed his entire family in the house they lived in and then proceeded to hang himself after burning his slave shacks down. Heard a few stories about it so not sure how much is true but it's said if you cut off your car on the bridge on the road it won't cut back on for a minute or so (cliche I know.) But allegedly a car from that era will appear behind you and chase you on the road.

336 people: there's a spoopy abandoned (almost completely) garment factory near downtown Winston that still has power/lights in some places. And it's absolutely massive. Four buildings linked together with multiple floors. It's just interesting to go urban exploring. Had some friends that liked to skateboard in the lower levels.

wnc is full of spoops. lived in cherokee county, near the tn border, fields of the wood and hiwassee dam, just west of murphy, nc.

those mountains and forests are haunted, as well as the small cabin we lived in there. once in a while in our cabin, we'd hear a door slam, except none of the doors would be moved. outside once in a while you'd hear voices, like they were whispering a couple of feet away. we lived 1/3 mile or so from the nearest neighbors.

the worst spoop was in a small old farmhouse just across the border into georgia though. the place had large and small shadows. one room you could barely stand to be in, if you got right in one spot, it would sound like a faint heartbeat. we saw apparitions, heard a ghost car regularly.

we would hear a car with a loud exhaust pull up the long drive. we'd hear it stop out front, engine stop, a car door open then slam shut. look out and nothing was there, not even any activity going up and down the road. neighbors were again, at least a 1/4 mile away and you could see plainly that no one just pulled in there.
