Do you ever notice how you never can find Cthulhu? The giant octopus humanoid dragon thing? Shouldn't be that hard right?

Truth is, he is the one recording and maintaining these underwater cameras for the US government, as his history as a Navy Seal landed him a job as a CIA Operative in the Pacific Ocean as a spy, he discovered the entirety every ocean, and relayed it back to the US, and his current job is to find any cameras not owned by the US, and tail them, making sure they don't see anything THAT major, like Atlantis and the like.

I want to touch it. Blue whales are cool.
I keep alot of fish and they all behave on a similar wavelength, blue whales are very docile and that one was probably just genuinely curious about the guy swimming there so he decided to mosy by and have a look. Fish are such curious creatures.

Like it or not they share much more with fish than they do with common mammals.

Salamander fish have those as well, doesn't make it a mammal.

I'm not saying a whale isn't a mammal, but for all intents and purposes it's a fish. If an alien asked you "what is a whale" and you said "it's a mammal just like lions and tigers and bears" he would think you were retarded and find someone else to get info from.

Well, in both Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, whales were talking to Dory so...yeah.

Whales get along with fish quite nicely I'd say.

Are you guys going to post more spooky stuff or what?
>>
the bloop
>>
>>17945945
This isn't really spooky but it's crazy to think about anyway.

Did you know that whales did not evolve from fish? They are actually LAND animals that returned to the oceans and evolved separately. How weird is that?

We always think that land animals are so much more evolved in some way, it was probably only by chance that we didn't evolve in the oceans.
>>
>>17945928
it doesn't make them a fish either.

Whales are far more intelligent than fish, which is imo what primarily separates them. aside from the obvious that I've already stated.

Fish are stupid as fuck. you can't draw enough oxygen from water to support higher brain function, which is why whales can have much larger brains.

Orcas for example have repeatedly been observed hunting in packs, and using the environment to catch prey (creating waves together to push seals off of ice floats) and shit like that.

>>17945945
Gimme a minute and I'll contribute some shit. My folder is disorganised as shit
>>
>>17945957
That's actually kind of creepy to think about.

I'm imagining hippos and shit but still...the fucking size difference between a blue whale and a hippo. What the fuck. How the fuck.
>>
>>17945962
Hey now, fish are a lot smarter than you give them credit for. Most people don't understand just how much intelligence and personality fish can display, it would surprise you.

The reason whales are smarter is probably just a kickback to their land lubber days and not because it's an inherent mammal trait.

>>17945967
I'm not sure, but whales do have a common ancestor, and that ancestor is a land mammal that is about the size of a hippo I believe.

You know about the color of those glowy appendages? Rows of lights?

Those little spots are called photophores, which are light emitting organs.
Photophores tend to come in blue, green, yellow and white for communication purposes. Light (as in, sunlight) has different wavelengths for each color, and red is the shortest, which means anything red is virtually invisible down there. Most deep sea fish cannot see the color red because of that.

But guess what is red down there?

This motherfucker's blushy anime cheeks. They act as, literally, an invisible beam of light in a sea of darkness. It could be right in front of their prey, looking at it, while remaining completely invisible.

Water helps reduce the strain on a body in terms of gravity, allowing for far larger animals. The volume to surface ratio is untenable on land, but with buoyancy and other stuff, bigger animals are more likely

-rogue waves don't "pick up." They're isolated events. Heavy seas happen but a rogue wave literally is a huge wave that has no reason to be (that we can see/understand).

Ie: you're in calm seas when all of a sudden it's The Day After Tomorrow.

Storms can pop up out of nowhere at sea. I've been reef diving before, looked at my depth gauge and realized that I'm suddenly deeper than the reef should be. Being on a reef during a storm isn't fun either. It's shallow enough that the water can be almost as rough as it is on the surface, so you can end up being smashed repeatedly up against the reef. If you are in deeper waters you may never even realize a bad storm had just swept over your head. Never had anything that as extreme as that image happen before though.

I saw an interview with a diver that was diving off the coast of Thailand when they had that really bad tsunami several years ago. He said that one minute they were at like 50 foot, and then suddenly it was like 300 foot. It's a wonder that they didn't get seriously fucked up by such a sudden change in depth. When you do deep dives you have to ascend slowly, and stop about halfway up, to let yourself decompress slowly. If you just shot straight up your lungs (or other organs) could rupture. It can also lead to decompression sickness (commonly called the bends) which can cause brain damage, paralyze you, or kill you outright--at a minimum it's very painful and unpleasant, or at least so I've heard. I never want to find out first hand.

My dad was on a destroyer. He's the only Navy guy I've ever met that just loved being out at sea. He preferred it to land, and at least before he met my mom, he would have stayed out there full time if they would have let him.

He says that a lot of the crew used to always race out on deck after storms, or whatever to pick up crabs and other shit that got washed up on deck, to cook. Not him though. He's probably the pickiest eater I've ever met. He won't touch any wild game, and he thinks eating shellfish (except shrimp) is disgusting.
>>

Your dad might have poor taste, but I bet he could tell some great stories. Know any?

I like both, but crab legs are one of my favorite things to eat, so they're definitely better than shrimp.

Once my dad and some of his buddies got shore leave in England, so naturally they hit the pubs. I mean it's England, and they were sailors. Apparently they got completely blitzed, and one of them had brought his guitar along, and so they decided to have a sing along. All was fine until they decided to sing this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL7XS_8qgXM

Needless to say the locals were a bit pissed, and a fight broke out. They managed to get out, and back to their ship without any serious injuries, or getting arrested.

I never really thought of my dad as a military man. I always saw him in my mind as an old timey, stereotypical sailor. Kinda like Popeye I guess. Popeye was my favorite cartoon character when I was really young, and that's probably why. I'm actually kind of surprised that he lasted in the Navy as long as he did, and managed to make it to the rank of petty officer. He's got like a really bad attitude towards authority, and he's prone to not thinking before he opens his mouth. I've never been in the military but I'm pretty sure they don't tolerate that shit even a little. Especially back in the late 60s and 70s.

I think a lot of the fear comes from the deep sea being mysterious and most of its creatures appear so different and almost alien to us. Whales however are mammals and also pretty smart and social, so we share a lot with them.

there is literally like a thousand or more species we haven`t discovered yet. judging by the things found deep but not as deep they probably look fucked up and some may be really fucking large.

also, imagine how weird would it be to be a fish. and all those fish are conscious and are separate beings with their own minds. universe must too weird to be real.

Fun fact: The little things that look like eyes that are above the mouth are actually the fish's nose. The big green orbs are the fish's eye, and they only point up.

>intensive purposes

This is known as a malapropism, and it is quite nonsensical. What the fuck is an "intensive purpose" supposed to even be? Basically, it is used by people who don't read very much if at all, but misguidedly believe themselves to be intelligent, when it's clear to the world that they are uneducated hicks. They've misheard the correct phrase being spoken before, but have never seen it written, because reading just puts them right to sleep every time, a fact that they will go around proudly boasting about at every opportunity, as if being a complete simpleton is something to be proud of.

I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.
