>Captain Mandible edition
Welcome to the /x/ OC thread. This thread is dedicated to creating monsters and other deities.
We accept everything from drawings to stories and even podcasts. Any art or text you have to contribute is accepted here. X-tan art is accepted and appreciated.

>Can I deposit something?
Sure! We love to see what you all think would be scary.

>Today's topic is Creativity.

Old thread >>17895410
>>
>>17940840
Creativity probably won't ask me to slaughter my first born son.
>>
Posting my comment again for discussion.

No offense, but I think we should keep these threads mostly art, with maybe just a little of the other stuff on the side. There are dozens of threads all the time devoted to stories, greentext, videos, and even music, but not many for original art.

I also don't like the idea of thread "themes" or "questions", it feels like they could restrict the content instead of the nice mishmash of work that we've got in threads like the last one.
>>
>>17940883
Sounds good to me, I just figured a broad spectrum would be very welcoming and open, but considering the fact that being open leads to fuckery. Thanks for the heads up.
>>
>>17940890
I don't want to dictate what this thread should or should not be about, because the occasional bit of writing or music would be great, like Scribe Anon's stuff or others, but I can see how it would go wrong very quickly, especially if that "two sentence horror stories" thing was encouraged. Those turn to shit really fast.
>>
>>17940883
Other generals use the term "starting topic." Regardless of the term used, they meant starting topic. It is bad form though.
>>
>>17940908
>>17940900
Gotcha. My mind kinda went blank when typing that up and I immediately forgot every bit of proper terminology. So please pardon the choke.

>>
>>17940992
Well /x/ is a blue board so as far as I know no smut or gore and whatnot unless you post it to imgur or something. Funny thing is an anon mentioned halfway through the last thread that we need more sexy times going in this piece.
>>
>>17941014
So like /b/, if /b/'d had a sensitive bone in its body.
>>
>>17940992

It's awesome to finally see you on, Bawble. I saw some of your work in the /b/ drawthreads and really liked your designs.

Everyone else's pretty much filled you in on the do's and dont's, so I won't bother, lol.

>>17941026

>...we need more sexy times going in this piece...

Agreed.
>>
>>17941026

>Well /x/ is a blue board so as far as I know no smut or gore and whatnot unless you post it to imgur or something.

>gore

Y'know, I'm curious how that applied to me when I posted my comic in the previous thread. I recall one of those pages involving one character ripping off another character's arm and impaling her with it. I mean, it was B&W, so I suppose the style limitations didn't make it look as graphic, but... I'm morbidly curious if I was treading on thin ice then.
>>
>>17941026
>an anon mentioned
Note that you can ignore any anon. You can even ignore many anon.
>>
>>17941026
>Funny thing is an anon mentioned halfway through the last thread that we need more sexy times going in this piece.

That was me.

>>17941014
>>17941058

Basically, don't post stuff you'd find on /b/ or any of the porn boards. No full nudity, but "sexy" and "titillating" stuff is good. Like a slightly milder version of /e/, or maybe /c/ type stuff.

"Gore" is more subjective if it's art, I think, but posting real or "realistic" photos is a no no.
>>
>>17941058
Well I'm not sure about gore. I feel like /x/ is a little bit more lennt about stuff of that nature considering the base of /x/s content.
>>17941072
Yeah. I always try to keep as many people as many please as I can, of course at the expense of logic, but it doesn't help that I actually agreed with them.
>>17941081
Well keep up the good work, freindo
>>
>>17941058
/x/ doesn't have a problem with gore, so it's not a problem. All of our problems as a board come from being right next door to /b/. We don't want the board to devolve into a gorefest, but an image here and there won't bother us at all. It's not the content that's the problem, it's the frequency of it. We're all already desensitized from /b/eing next /d/oor.

the no nudety thing is gonna be rough... are you guys ok with censor bars? it'll increase how much I post by seriously.. 90%... though I suppose I can make an imagur account or something... I dunno.
>>
>>17941081
Actually this post reminded me of the issue with gore.

Don't draw repetitive fetish art. Weird and creepy shit is totally fine, even to the point of being gore, but I don't want to feel like I'm looking at crap that was churned out purely for be fap material. That's a /b/ thing, not an /x/ thing. Even /d/ sometimes complains about stuff being too repetitive or just uncreative.
>>
>>17941117
Whatever floats your boat. For the mos part I'm very encouraging of content from all walks of life, but it helps to have other anons serve as a realistic filter.
>>
>>17941117
Why not alter the naughty bits to be creepy faces, appendages, or mouths?

>>17941131
This please. If it's just for faps or to gross people out, that's why /d/ and /b/ exist.
>>
>>17941141
>>17941117
Not a bad idea. Adds extra spook effect to something that'd be basic nudity and adds some spice to something that would be a basic piece of work.
>>
>>17941117
Glad you've found your audience (or at least less toxic artist group)

I just hope I'm /x/ enough really... I don't think what I draw is all that creepy.
>>17941166
/b/ isn't "toxic" /b/ is brutally honest... I'm not very good so all the shit slung at me is deserved aside from the odd kill yourself I get I guess.

Hopefully /x/ likes my stuff... if not please tell me and I'll stop.
>>
>>17941194
We liked what another anon posted of yours in the last thread. Your art is welcome here.

/b/ really is a shithole, especially these days. It CAN, on occasion, be a fun shithole, but that doesn't change the nature of the place either. In some ways, /x/ is the same.
>>
>>17941194
Well to be quite honest, from what I've seen your stuff seems //x/ enough. And it's cool that we've got a mesh between works with continuity works and standalone pieces so thanks for that.
>>
>>17941194
Let's call it toxicly honest.

On creepiness... It varies a lot among individuals. The general rule of thumb is that the artists won't have as much of a sense of how creepy something really is as the audience will. If people say it's creepy, just trust them on that. If you don't feel like your work is good, that's your call to make and how you wish to improve is your job as an artist. Personally I think it's good but let others make the judgment call on how creepy it is.

Also if some anon tells you to stop, wait a couple minutes to see how others reply to them. You can ignore any given anon, including many given anon.

Geists are consciousness that don't dissipate after death, usually manifesting as wisps... however geists can sometimes merge or gain enough energy to manifest in greater forms.

Black dogs are a type of Geist... a low level geist whos only motivation is to kill and rend... they are untrainable, relentless and vicious. While manifested they can be harmed by physical means and must manifest in order to interact with the physical plain making them particularly vulnerable... when broken into pieces they typically return to the form of the wisps that came together to form it.

They are fast, come equipped with sharp teeth, and sharp claws as well as a bladed tail and sometimes back tentacles, or extra bladed limbs.

I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind... they're supposed to look like if Dogs and Humans had merged DNA rather than like... a furry.

I understand the flaws, but I'll give some recognition to the good you did. Really dig the amount of detail you gave to the spooky part of the image. The focus should be on the spooky image and the contrast in color and detail in the characters and the setting really bounce off of each other. I understand the dissatisfaction with the things you left out and the lack of effort put into things, but the shaky simplistic background would look great behind solid detailed pieces of foreground. Sorry for the vague and rushed review, I'm just busy, but there is definitely a developable style to you work.

Anyway, DID YOU GUYS HEAR ABOUT THE NEW BLAIR WITCH? I've never been this excited for a horror movie. I'm obsessed with the original, and this one looks like it's the found footage film I've been waiting for.

In other news, remember that short story I mentioned in the last thread? I can't post the text so it doesn't count as published by magazine standards, so is there an easy way to screencap a really large story? It's one of the longest things I've written so far.
>>
>>17945689
Haven heard about but I'll look it up right now. In terms of the screen so thing I'm nt entirely sure of a good way to do so.
>>
>>17945729
It just hit the internet by storm, and according to my boss at BD the movie is amazing. Can't wait.

And yeah, I haven't found anything for the screencapping yet. It's a lot of stuff, so it'd be way too time-consuming to do it one at a time.

Also, sorry for disappearing, had to fix some shit regarding the Eldritch Knight project. One of our team members from college disappeared, and the other one messed up my instructions. It was pretty bad.

However, now that the college portion of this is done, I can get onto producing an actual short. Thanks again for your help, Pixel, btw.

Opinions are opinions mate, it's no problem. I'm excited for this one because I'm a fan of the team behind it, and it was already screened at comic con. All my friends over there who saw it, loved it. I was obsessed with the original, and even enjoyed the shitty sequel for what it was (GoodBadFlicks did a great video defending it, actually, you should check that out).

Anyway, the new one is basically a new story that takes place in the same universe as the original. Apparently a lot of people left the screening because they couldn't handle the tension. Bunch of plebs.

I've always been a vehement defender of Found Footage, as I think it's a genius concept that hasn't been fully implemented yet. I did a whole article defending the 'genre' at one point, so I'm legit excited for this movie. Nothing ever did the FF schtick better than Blair Witch, IMO.

In other news, I'm loving the new artist contributions here. Never seen so much quality OC on /x/ before.

Certain magical systems use language to do what they do. See Jewish Kabbalah for an example of this.

Why doesn't /x/ design a magical language?
>>
>>17949251
Seems interesting. I could see a part /x/ picking something like this up, but the hardest part would be the potential fuckery that comes along. I imagine humor would be fine, but this could be hunkered down by shitposting. Well I think it's an interesting idea. Let's see what the other anon's have to say.
>>
>>17949251
Not so sure that's the greatest idea, especially for this thread. First of all, it's harder to invent a (decent) language than you think, unless you're just going for a typical substitution cypher or whatever. Then you've got to rely on other people to actually learn this new language, and who knows how many would be willing. Also, are you just thinking of an "alphabet" or a real actual language itself, with grammar, punctuation, rules, and everything? Do you even know anything about inventing languages?

So not to be a killjoy, but it's not just something you can pull off easily on a whim. You'd probably need an entire thread dedicated to that with an actual linguist or two helping out if you want it to be any good. Otherwise you just wind up with random scribbles and it becomes pseudo-cryptic /x/ thread #56952 like all the other random, lazy ARGs we've been getting lately.
>>
>>17951458
>Do you even know anything about inventing languages?

Yes actually. I'm a novice linguist who has constructed languages before as a hobby.

And yes I am thinking of a full language with morphology, grammar, syntax and everything. Just note that I said a magical language. So we would basically have to take into accound "/x/ considerations" (can I scry with this for instance) when making it. So I doubt most people would use it daily, as it would have an explicitly "ceremonial" purpose, such as Enochian, though people certainly could learn and speak it if they wanted.

I know it wouldn't be simple, but /tg/ has pulled off creative projects bigger than this before.

Maybe she starts out that way, then develops her more classic /x/-tan look later on?
>>
>>17952865
Well the character was supposed to be a sorta AU or elseworld x-tan, but yeah that was the plan. But when I was doing the first couple of chapters of the comic I didn't like the look as much as I thought I did and wished I had stared with her long hair from scratch. After realizing that I was stuck with it I decided that it would help show her character changing over time. I had planned from the start for her appearance to change over time as a side effect to exposure to the paranormal, and that's still the plan.

More butts...

Brain devourers are parasites that attach to the host's spinal column then as it grows, consumes the brain, skull and face of the host, integrating with it's nervous system... Though Brain Devourers have found out they can breed and infect hosts in the womb, essentially giving birth to preinfected infants no longer needing to infect new hosts... they're still looked down upon and are a kill on sight species in many countries.

They feel it, but a very dulled sense of it... the relationship between the parasite and host is symbiotic... the Worm itself wriggling around body cavaties and organs just sometimes makes a slight tingling sensation, where as getting an arm torn off feels like a bad sprain, the pain very fleeting though as pain for the host now only signifies something happened and isn't meant to let the host know theres lasting damage, thats for the worm to take care of.

Characters from a comic I've put on the backburner. Haven't drawn this much muscle in a while so a lot of the details are off. The series is about a 'time-traveling' gogo dancer. I had most of the story written out and storyboarded but I wrote that stuff like 3-4 years ago, so after looking through it there's a decent amount to change. I just like drawing some oldies to keep them in mind. Funny thing is I've got three series on the backburner and they're all action (action artist is what I figure is what I am at heart), so this is the most tame thing I've ever worked on. I'm in a bit of a rush with the sentences and information. If anyone s curious I'd be down to talk about it a bit, just to get it out there and refresh my memory.
>>
>>17956696
You put so much detail into your art and descriptions that it seems justified for you to chronicle and archive your mythos. It also helps that your characters are interesting in design and content. You should feel obliged, considering how talented you are.
>>
>>17956703

I'm very optimistic with other people's works, so take everything I say with a grain of salt, but the reality is that most people think they're mediocre. You stuff isn't bad, there's room for improvement, but that can be said for practically everyone. If you get compliments on your work it means you can draw better than those who can't and if you feel your art is inadequate then you're not as good as those who you look up to. When you take those two things into consideration it mean you are at least average, and average represents the majority, so that mean yo're good enough. And good enough isn't concrete, you can always grow, bet never regress when it comes to knowledge.
>Tl;Dr If you aren't the best and you aren't the worst you're average and that's better than nothing.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to be posting in, but this is a short true story from when I was young

In my room I had a bunk bed, my brother had the top bunk and I had the bottom bunk, it was directly across from our window.

Every night when we went to bed, I would always see a shadow of a hand (I think it was a male hand) waving side to side like it was waving hello on our blue curtains. Even when I opened the curtains it would still be there, just waving side to side never changing its speed. I was never sure what it was, my first theory was that it was from the house behind us, they had kids and I thought it could them just waving, but that is pretty stupid seeing how close the hand looked on the curtains and window.

I would wave at it sometimes to see if it would stop after that, but it would keep going. I was never truly scared just creeped out a bit. I never told anyone when it was actually happening because they wouldn't believe me, the hand had no certain time it would be waving, just some times at night, so I could never get my parents in to see.

When I tell people about it today they try and suggest stupid things like "Maybe it was a tree"

Got Bored... drew a Mimic... they are very complex creatures that can copy body forms from organisms its consumed pieces of... some mimics actually accidentally make themselves sentient by creating a complex humanoid brain. Mimics are ambush predators and very difficult to kill, Fire tends to work best, as it interrupts the cellular activity of the Mimic... Mimics can survive and regenerate from a surprising amount of damage, however, they still need a large enough amount of biomass to make primitive structures to take in nutrients and oxygen... How mimics evolved and what they evolved from is a complete mystery, currently it is believed they are a more docile form of Tarturian Flesh stranded on Midgard. As for Sentient Mimics, they are Kill on Sight in most countries and mostly find solace in non human communities and even Undead communities and communities of Sentient Gels and Slimes. They are usually second class citizens though some sentient mimics have been known to blend in so well that people can't tell they are in fact mimics and instead integrate perfectly into society (However there are ways to tell if someone is a Mimic that the mimic can't hide.)

I've been busy writing an article on Stephen King adaptations, but I'm still lurking this quality thread, folks. Hope everyone's alright.

Anyway, I've seen some artists taking requests around here, and I was wondering if anyone wanted to do some character stuff for that comic book project I mentioned a few threads back. It would only be the antagonists, for now.

If anyone's up for it, the first antagonist is a tall guy in an old-fashioned suit, wearing black gloves and a gas-mask with tentacle-like protrusions that make his face slightly resemble our lord and saviour Cthulhu.

If he doesn't sound interesting enough, there's also a gender-bent alternate universe version of the welding-mask Knight from the Eldritch Knight project. (There's an in-universe explanation for her showing up here, and why she looks like the Eldritch Knight). I haven't really thought about her appearance that much, other than the fact that she's an Eldritch Knight archetype from another dead universe, stranded in ours.

Glad that these threads are still going strong. Kudos to ya, Pixel.

This is a Morph, a humanoid being that evolved to trap, hunt and consume sentient prey. Though they now consume sensible food, they are still a reviled species usually condemned to back alley sex work and slums to survive, in some countries they are kill on sight. They are intelligent beings who just want to live in and integrate into society however, their old food source, humans, still vehemently reject them. They typically stick together and try to live among their peers and beings similar to them like Devourers, Mimics, Sirens, Selkies, Undead, and Vampires ect. ect. ect.
Morph were named for how human they look from a distance... as prey was lured closer, their true nature becomes apparent, it was originally thought they took on human form however this is false... Morphs were largely boogeymen to various civilizations, forest dwellers who consumed the flesh of the living and the dead... beings who would lure the lustful to their untimely deaths.

Don't know if this meets /x/ standards, but here's an old drawing of mine. (It might come out sideways because phones) but it's Azrael, an angel of death in Jewish lore. I love angels because canonically they're described as eldritch horrors, but all the religious are like "lol no, they're pretty! We don't read our text that we take seriously enough to interpret literally even though you're clearly not meant to. Angels are totes womens with wingz!1!!!1"
>>

True enough. What can you do, even back then, people just wanted some pretty eye-candy to secretly fap to. Not that I dislike that style entirely, but it's cool to see art of how they're actually described.

Good news, anon:

I finally got off my lazy ass and drew your request!

I even threw in some lore for fun:

“An insidious abomination of emotional rancor, this emaciated terror conjures into our world on behalf of pitiful vengeance. It bears no name or species, but it’s drawn toward incitement and contempt. Victims of the creature are often perpetrators of rape or murder, given their persistence in human civilizations. They’re often stalked into remote areas and then assaulted into a chase. Once cornered, their deaths are brisk yet brutal: the creature will tear them asunder or will mash them into a gory mess with its enormous claw. In its fit of rage, the mass atop its back will burst like blood clod as it squeezes the victim’s decapitated head of its fleeting fifteen seconds of life. Eventually, the misshapen monster shall trudge away and after its next vindication.”

Glad you liked it! I was actually worried about things being a bit too vague, but I've always felt that too much explanation would just ruin the mystery.

You know, something tells me people would kill for tattoo designs like this. Possibly even posters.
>>
>>17980409

Not the first time I've heard that remark. A peer back in high school asked me to draw him a tattoo design. (Suffice to say, his parents said "no," but he still paid me $5.)

Posters were a recent suggestion by two random college students who took a liking to one of my designs at first glance. (Idk though, I haven't gotten any emails back since then. I doubt they were playing me, but I don't think they were devoted to getting a poster, lol.)

Something to think about though, especially when my professors are expecting me to sell or publish my work before graduation.

i've been putting a lot of stuff out on my musical projects facebook page, under the hashtag #surgeryheadmythos. It's all tangentially connected at the moment, seems like, sort of what it is- a bunch of story ideas and stuff that have no way of turning into some kind of extended narrative- but it does all tie together. Just today I posted:

"A New Form Of Beauty was released in 1932 in the united states, heavily censored from it’s original cut, which featured graphic, unsimulated sex in rape scenes where petite men and women filled in for childish victims. The film was an early, graphic criticism of the paedophillia in the Catholic Church. The subject matter was so shocking, and the execution so vile (example: there is rumoured to be scene in which a child is stripped and beaten horrifically while a grown man watches and graphically masturbates) that it was not only banned but erased from the annals of history.
A lot of the scenes were reshot although it is rumoured that an unedited copy exists- in fact many do, there is a secret club of Hollywood elite, “forbidden film” fanatics that idolise and revere Gould’s films and distribute them in secret- this secret club, known as the 68 club, are actually members of the Order of The Beast, although they are unaware of that.
The biggest controversy, hidden from the annals of history to only a few- is the final sequence in which the pedophillic lord of the manor gets his limbs cut off by the lady owner of the orphanage in which he preys- Maddox actually paid a drug addict to allow him to forcefully remove his arms and legs with a scythe.
The addict survived the mutilation and lived the rest of his short life in a secret location- hooked up to a drip of incredibly potent morphine. Maddox, of course, filmed the junkie and recorded his voice until he died."
>>
>>17940840
one last piece of that post
"These so called special effects in film.... I find perfectly offensive. Georges Méliès has raped cinema while she is still in the womb. If what you see on the screen is anything less than reality- then it is worth nothing." - Maddox Gould, 1902

If you follow the #surgeryheadmythos hashtag you can see some stuff pertaining to "the video wasteland" which is a dimension in which the forces of good and "evil" clash in their most archetypical forms, and serves as a nexus point between an infinity fictional and non fictional universes

I know this really sounds like i'm trying schill my music project, if you'd like to listen to that, that's great, but desu that project is more of a vehicle for those fictional universes than the other way around. I'm even working on a comic based on the LP I released recently. Here's a preview of one of the pages. (art by the very talented Sam Henry) This character is a "Corpse Monger", which are a clan of Black Metal style killers with "Slasher" powers and live underground, command monsters and serve the ultimate forces of destruction (Qlippoth/tree of death/the great corpse monger)- this guy pictured is a new recruit.
Watched Baskin recently and it really seemed to me as a bunch of Corpse Mongers! Loved that film
