They're like real life monsters. Nothing spookier than those long true crime/unsolved not-paranormal mysteries threads late at night . You know these men might be in your neighbourhood.

Not sure if appropriate to mention but when I was reading Part 4 of Jojo again, it clicked in my head that the whole point of the villain, a serial killer quietly killing women in his own home town for 20 years while masquerading as the most boring man possible was more monstrous and interesting than any of the other villains who were outwardly crazy.

It's the fascination of the grotesque. A normal person secretly being a monster is something that hits us in our gut.
