Foxes for me, they appear at poignant moments of my life, and I can relate to a lot of their characteristics. Hyenas and crows pop up occasionally when they need to, too. When I was kid though, lions were my animal, it's pretty cool to see how they change over the years. Reminds me of The Golden Compass, where their daemons/souls change shape until they become adults and they settle on one form.

One way is through a visualization-based meditation exercise called an underworld journey. I'll try to give you the basic gist of it here. I would recommend doing some research on methods of meditation in general and trying normal meditation before you start to experiment with this. Having these experiences will help you a lot here.

Anyway, once you're comfortable with normal meditation, begin the same way you would normally. Comfy space, quiet, dark. Lie on your back, or sit upright and cross-legged (the upright method can be a little uncomfortable for long periods, if you haven't done your homework and practiced normal meditation by this point). Some people find that thinking about your intent ("I want to meet my spirit guide") before beginning can be very helpful. This applies to both normal meditation and underworld journey meditation. Your mileage may vary, but binaural beats/drumming are great for improving focus. I recommend this one in particular, from my own experience:

I've found that cannabis (even a small amount) helps a lot with the focus and visualization required, though I'm sure it isn't necessary.

Now, let's begin. Imagine you're outdoors in a location you're familiar with. The easier it is for you to visualize this place, the better. Explore the space in your mind, imagining walking around and experiencing it with all of your senses. As you begin to focus on this experience, it becomes sort of like a half-dream, half-waking thing.

Somewhere in this space, you want to find a hole. A borough into a tree, a cave, or even something you dig yourself. Enter the hole. If you find yourself in a tunnel, do what you can to move through it. This may take multiple sessions. From here, your experience will be your own, and you must work with what your mind brings to you in this dream space to explore it as though it were a real world.
