In Oland, off of Sweden in 500 AD, as the population saw the migration into Europe proper, a fort was massacred. Bodies were grouped around a door, and if I do remember the damage was blunt, not stabbed. Valuables were left and the fort was left untouched, broken down by nature and forgotten. Could had been grisly raiders, or a monster.
