that was my point, fag.
/his/ does humor threads, I think there is one up over there now. /mu/ does. /an/ makes funny threads often, a bird gif and webm thread they had a few weeks ago was one of the funniest threads I've seen in a while.
it's only /b/ where ylyl threads suck because of niggers who spam gore and granny porn (well, until the banana took over)
hit up a board and find a 'best of "that board"' thread sometime, most of the 'epic' posts from that board are remembered because they're funny. just because OP said "x" ylyl" doesn't make it /b/. we have "funny x" and "x related comics" and "x LOL" named threads that are the same thing

hahaha. funny enough, I was on vacation with my niece a few weeks ago, and in this huge cabin we'd rented there was a vcr attached to the big screen TV in the game room. we knew the place had it so we'd brought along videos we liked when we were young to watch with her, even videos OF us when we were young (my sis = her mom)
anyway, for how far we've come technology wise (I mean, it's mind-boggling how far - my niece can handle a cell phone like nothing, and I didn't have one (or e-mail) until I was 18), and for all the difference in quality between VHS and HD tv's and DVD's, I FUCKING LOVED that all I had to do was hit "power" and "press PLAY". boom. on. wanna go back? here's "rewind". done. no chapter menu, main menu, where's the button on the damn remote bullshit. just play, stop, ff, rewind. I fucking loved it. I recommend all "old" people take VCR's on vacation.
enough blabbing.

I just saw an ad for a documentary, I think? a documentary on On Demand cable somewhere, (wish I could remember), that because of the connected-ness we have now, online, and how we have such quick access to videos and pictures - as in "instant" - not sending film out to be developed and waiting and having to take the actual pictures to peoples houses when you wanted to show them -- that huge difference in how we literally "see" ourselves and how we "watch" our life -- it may end up having a profound change on the way we experience time.
having some "synchronicity" effect about this a little, actually. I just told my sister recently how my niece likes to watch phone videos of herself and her sister (they're four and one), and look at photos I have of her on my phone. It's a common thing that she'll ask me to show her that video of her singing the alphabet when she was 3. I don't know if lots (like a generation) of kids do that - but it's something that wasn't really possible for me to do when I was little! Camcorders weren't around when I was born. Not to say you couldn't make home movies, of course... just that it's gotten so much easier and so much faster (and we're all our own publishers on a world wide stage, as we wish to be, or whether kids realize it or not)
I don't know, though, if it will make her life feel faster? or slower? Maybe you younger anons can comment.
If I can find the name of the show or documentary that was looking into this idea, I'll post it later.
Btw, I graduated HS in 1996 (I consider myself an 80's/90's kid) - the year internet in the home became a general thing. AoL dial-up and all that. I literally thought I wouldn't see anyone from my high school again until the reunion, and I didn't, until about our 10th when we were all on fucking Myspace. My first e-mail address was the one I was assigned when I got to my university. My first cell phone was a handful of years later.
>>17907364
So nice to hear that. Glad you enjoyed!
We'll see how the thread goes. Maybe I'll get a chance to post the handful left in my folder before it's done.
>>17902976
you clearly don't know what you're missing.
>>17907433
Just graduated high school this last year
My experience with this is that because of all the exposure you have to other people's human experience via the internet and movies your own life starts to feel like it's already been played out. You start to devalue actual experience because you compare it to what you've seen. Time seems to pass faster because instead of spending time working on one thing for a long period of time you have to constantly be monitoring hundreds of second to minute long interactions whether it be with your phone, computer, friends, or with music and other forms of entertainment.
It feels like everything in your actual life should be moving as fast as your interactions online or with technology so your view of time warps to fit that.
But that's just what I can comment on from my own life.

It makes me sad that this image is the only version of this meme that has survived.

It's the The Far Side. It ran during the 80s/early 90s, yes, but it is something worth reading. Have you ever seen the short film Tales from the Far Side? Weird shit.

aw. all I can think of to say is the lame "don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened" quote I probably misworded.
On a for real feel better note, your "why" sad skeleton reaction pic is awesome. and saved.

thank you much for the reply. With the near-synchronicity of the idea happening I appreciate having a different perspective.
I can relate to the "played out" feeling and devaluing your experiences because of comparing to what you've seen - facebook was problematic for me for a year or so when I was dealing with a major depression, and even still from time to time when I'm down. (I know that's not exactly how you meant it, but I see the similarity). There is just zero point in comparing your life or experiences or accomplishments to others. It's human nature, though I think, and hard to avoid that with all the social media connections. Make time to unplug once in a while maybe. though, in contrast to that idea, because of all the noise and distractions sometimes, just coloring or sewing and nothing else - no TV, no music - I get completely blissfully absorbed, it's like I just float away, I'm not aware of anything but the task ahead of me - and sometimes the time flies by after I'm "out of the zone". Then again, I learned about mindfulness and meditation and relaxation and what activities like sewing and piano playing and coloring do for me through therapy r/t depression and anxiety...
I still catch myself (and see other people around me) recording moments on their phones instead of just being "in it". I always wanted to take pics (disposable camera) of my friends partying back in college, but I was careful not to "over do it" because being the only one snapping pics, it was like I woke everyone up to the fact that "we're going to remember this fun party". it was... weird. not good or bad. just something you could sense. which was weird.
maybe we'll make a thread about this here sometime.
I really feel like a lame old faggot blabbing on and on while I'm half asleep. gonna post some more fun stuff from my /x/ folder and STFU already

ah, damn, image limit reached. I'd start a new thread but I'm going to be asleep soon. If I see another tonight or tomorrow, I'll contribute with the rest of my stuff then. thanks, all.
