I believe in them. I've seen one, and so has my mother. You can't summon them, but you can hire them. /x/ skinwalkers are not real skinwalkers.

It's usually done out of spite. Neighbor got a big shiny new truck that outshines yours? Hire a skinwalker, they'll crash that truck in a few weeks and you'll get a better truck. It doesn't have to kill, I've heard. I don't know anything about how to hire them. I've never been jealous enough to even consider enquiring. They supposedly have some sort of secret society, from what I hear. It comes from the old idea that these people once helped the local tribes spy on enemy encampments/settlements, and we're not always necessarily evil.

Skinwalkers will try to lure you away by calling your name if they know it. If they don't and you spot one, they will either taunt you, throw a handful of poisonous powder on you or, as is most likely, flee, which is what happened to both my mother and I.

They do not try to infiltrate camping groups because their form/illusion of form can not be maintained if viewed by three or more people at once. Dogs and cats can apparently see through their bullshit.

They hate the smell of mustard seed and sage.

They can only take on one animal form at once, though new skinwalkers may have trouble maintaining form and may look like a cross between a human and whatever skin they are wearing at the time.

In Islam, ghouls are a type of jinn that are similar to skinwalkers. I have no experience w/ ghouls, but you might find something there.

They do not throw poisonous powder. I have not even heard of this. Maybe a similar creature?

They can maintain the facade in large groups.
They can also displace the facade, for example it could be hiding in the nearby bushes watching you interact with the facade. I am unsure of the maximum range that this can be performed but they are always nearby. I'd say 20-30m max.

They hate the smell of anything burning.

They can assume the form of any living creature.

My information is from the tales of Navajo and Mayaami elders, including my mother. In Navajo tradition, they do indeed throw a powder, though my mother and I are Mayaami, so I can't speak as much on things outside of what she has told me.

/x/ still hasnt made a clear distinction between the skinwalkers desribed in creepypastas and how they are in native american folklore. They are two different things and it can get a bit confusing

See, I thought "fleshgait" was just an attempt to clarify this name problem.
To me it seems that the /x/ type is entirely non-human and tries to infiltrate group of humans by taking the form of somebody they know.
While the folklore version describes more of an indian shaman/wizard than turns into animals.
But maybe thats just my confusion

Throughout the rest of that drive it just seemed like animals were stalking us from the side of the road. Everyone in the car felt it and saw what was going on. Im not sure how skinwalkers behaive, but from stories and legends ive heard they like to fuck with their victims. Its plain for me to see me and my friends were being fucked with that night.

You're right in your descriptions, even if they are a little too simplified. But they have things in common like bad smells, taking animal form on occasion, mimicking voices, things like that.

I don't know what to call /x/ skinwalkers, but I've been trying to get people to call them fleshgaits because I'm so used to the skinwalkers being shape shifting shamans that it startled me a bit to see an inhuman creature referred to as a skinwalker.

I think they could be some kind of mistake that made them mix both concepts. They have the ability to switch skins and fake voices as a skinwalker but the hunger and wild nature of a wendigo. I've just seen a couple of threads in /x/ about wendigos, so that mistake could make sense because of misinformation
