both of them were just things I were throwing out to keep the conversation going and maybe give someone ideas. now that you mention it, the first one does meet the banner criteria - I just never saw it used or labeled as such. I was the second post as well. I have no experience with images beyond a basic screencap. As for resizing or editing to meet the banner size, that will have to be for someone else to do. (Maybe I'll look up how to do it, though. If I find something I think is worth banner material. Again, neither of these was meant as an official submission. But thanks for the info anyway).

I do have quite a few more funny (I think) caps from /x/ threads. With it having to fit the banner size, we wouldn't have room for more than one or two posts, right? like the first one I posted?

If pics rather than caps of posts would work, I have a few that might also work nicely for /x/, except for the need to be resized.

OP posted a huge set of the images without any text added, and a huge set with text. Now that I look at it again most were already made, with maybe a few that other /x/files decided to make for the thread.

They were well liked by the majority of the anons in the thread. A few naysayers, however the OP brought up that (he heard that) the artist, Don Kenn, knows about the altered images and that he finds them funny, and provided a link to an archived /co/ thread where this was discussed.

Again, just trying to get involved. Kinda fun to think about. I've been here so long, and yet, never really took an interest in banners. Do you have any ideas or suggestions for images or a direction we could go in?

I mentioned more than once that I was just posting some stuff from my x folders to give people ideas, keep the post bumped - I don't have the first clue how to make an image with the required dimensions, let alone edit it to say "4 chan" or whatever.

and "dumb screenposts", that's like, your opinion, man. The banners I like best are ones that make me laugh because they capture the 'personality' of the place. A lot of folks laugh at /x/ across the boards - we're not known for our superior intellect or anything here, you know? I think it'd go over well (across boards) if we could do something showing that we can laugh at ourselves.

If you look back, I think it should be evident that I've just been attempting to be a participant in this, and encouraging of others - supportive, even. I'm happy to take a role on the sidelines - I'm just interested in /x/ and interested in the contest.

I should have said that I can take screencaps, and crop pictures, and resize, but only for aesthetics. What I'm not sure of is exactly how to use those actions while meeting the size specifications. I've never tried is the thing, nor have I used paint much in the past. But I had the time free, am a quick learner, have a ton of content to work with, and there's not been much posted (or even suggested) yet.

You seem to have a great deal of knowledge about banners and this contest. You state your opinion about what makes for a good banner as if it was fact. Maybe as more anons join in more will agree with you than with me on possible banner ideas. In the meantime, I have every right to post about what kind of banners I like and what I think might make a good banner for /x/, even if it isn't your cup o' tea.

So. Though you haven't posted example banners or any OC yourself; though you reacted negatively to nearly each and every "just throwing this out there" type post I've made; though you openly discouraged me not to try to make content or bother learning and insulted my taste in banners; and though you did not respond to inquiries made about a subject of which you speak with familiarity and passion - posts which, if answered with useful information would potentially be a help to others besides me, you haven't yet succeeded completely in turning me off the subject and giving up on /x/ or this contest.
